Default Anyone done ABS delete on classic??

I’m looking to tidy up my engine bay and make some room for front mount, induction kit and catch can and I read a few posts about deleting the ABS system. Some people say it can be quite dangerous on the classics.

Has anyone here done this mod and can give any feedback, be it positive or negative??

cheers.

Assuming the correct parts are used (and of course forgetting for a moment that ABS is a safety feature, so removing it must by definition make a car less safe), I don't see how running without ABS on a classic can be all that dangerous, given that JDM imports of that era were sold without it from factory.

The key thing to check here would whether the same proportioning valves are used on ABS and non-ABS cars of the same age. AFAIK they are, but you will want to do bullet-proof research on this before commiting.

I use my classic for sprinting and regularly turn it off for competition use. I added a switch in the front rhs abs sensor. Break circuit = no abs and make circuit = ABS. Never had a problem.

My 94 WRX came with assumably factory ABS. It doesn't work since I've removed the ECU and pulled all the relays in it mind. The pump will be getting removed.

I'm sure that the new MOT laws require that if it had it then it should still be there, might be worth checking

I've asked my friendly local indapendant MOT testers about removing the ABS on my track/weekend car.
Their advise was that there's a section of the MOT handbook specifically for heavily modified cars, so whilst normally removing the ABS is a problem (if there's a visible trace of it ever existing ) it can pass under the advisory of being heavily modded brake system but to a safe standard.
Or something like that.
