Engines explained please?
Hi guys I have a 2003 WRX blobeye wagon that i'm in the middle of rebuilding. I need heads for it but i'm little confused with all the different terms for engines ie long engine, sti's etc.
Can anyone point me in the direction of list of which engine fit which car and what the difference is between heads please.
Mine is a 2003 WRX Wagon EJ205 engine
I have a spare set of heads from a 2001 Forester turbo S but i understand these are different
Thanks

iTrader: (20)
long engine = bottom end with 2 heads connected
short engine = bottom end only (rods/pistons/crank/block halves)
sti use avcs heads which will fit on a wrx but you need a custom loom from jt innovations and i believe a jdm ecu to run the system or you can just fit the heads and not benefit from the avcs by not wiring them up.
sti engine is regarded as the strongest engine built by subaru with many running 400-450 bhp in standard form with 0 issues (i think somebody even ran 500bhp on one aswell)
wrx engine is on borrowed time after 330bhp so is the 5 speed gearbox depending how its driven.

If your isp lets you (some don't) opposedforces.com is very useful for many part numbers

Thanks guys that clears up a few things for me. I will probably get some WRX cams then and rebuild the forester heads with WRX springs valves cams etc.
I'm not after silly power as I'm building a cheap track/hill climb car that's just a bit of fun bar decat and coilovers it will stay pretty much standard
