Was doing the annual under seal today on the classic and upon removing road dust / grit I noticed the rear strut tower area was s but weak , a few pokes and prods and I made this nice little number lol
So until I can fix more permanent I bodged with chemical metal
My question is can it be fixed with fibreglass sheets rather than weld ?
Yeah it's at that age now , 22 yrs old , I think the underseal has done a good job of preventing whatvusually happens . I've got a few little bits already . I checked the other side and that hasn't gone yet but if I pressed hard enough I'm sure I could make a hole lol .
Found some areas on my bugeye that seemed ok at first glance. On jacking the nearside on the rear car jack there was a horrible noise as the metal started to give. also inside the wheel arch need attention. Hope the rain tonight is not a sign of the weather turning as will need to cut and shape all the pieces I need then hopefully spend a day welding it in place.

Lucky you can do the work yourself and know it has been done right.
Sadly its getting quite common at the moment. We repair one a month at the moment. Cut out all the bad metal. Make up new metal work and weld into place & treat.
I've Had s quote of £150 for a guy to plasma cut the rotted side out and weld a new plate in .
Seems very cheap if he does a good job.
12 hours to do both sides a decent job is what I find quite common. That includes stripping out the struts etc then painting & stone chipping plus more paint.
