Question

Apart from make the engine bay look pretty, do they actually improve anything?

Surely a tube is a tube.......right?

Aftermarket companies dream in the Placebo stakes i think

Hi mickey back from your stagdoo i thought it was quiet in notts.

Samco hoses perfomance wise no.

If you are running more boost then it is a good idea because the standard ones have been known to split.

Easy to fit than the original hoses too, and yes they do make under the bonnet look a bit cleaner.

Go for it mate (blue)

Anybody running increased boost (Link, PPP, EcuTek) should/must get their intercooler pipework uprated. The weak point in the OEM stuff is the rigid plastic Y-piece pipe under the intercooler which has been known to burst/crack under high boost.

The PPP comes with the STi aluminium Y-piece pipe and the blue Prodrive/Samco silicon pipes. You can buy the STi rally y-piece from MRT or the full PPP pipe kit from Performance Subaru. It's about £180. The Samco pipework is much thicker than the OEM kit (which is rubber and plastic and uses a soft silicon y-piece pipe under the intercooler.

As I said, anyone running increased boost should upgrade their intercooler pipework. Prodrive obviously do with PPP and I understand that BRD won't fit a Link to a car that doesn't have uprated pipework. Anyone considering a Tek 2 or 3 should also get it.

I have the Samco pipework. Does the job and looks good too

Is there a conversion kit available for the angled intercooler of earlier scoobs, as I want to get rid of the plastic pipework as may be on the upperlimits of it's capabilities.

There is no performance difference for as long as the oem plastic item stays in one one piece but having had several fail at a modest boost increase of 1.2/1.3 bar then it is strongly adviseable to replace them if you are increasing boost. we will do a car without but the owner is warned that the session will be aborted if the plastic pipe splits for obvious reasons and hence we advise this is uprated in advance.

Ask and ye shall learn

Cheers Guys

Interesting how the american dudes tackle and discuss these issues, much more matter of factly with very few few IMHO's and AFAIK's.

Is it just the one plastic pipe under the intercooler that needs replacing to a silicon one ?? People are saying pipework.... I would like to know more about this please ....

Cheers

It is just the plastic pipe from the turbo outlet to the two intercooler inlets that causes problems on Eurospec cars (and WRX). STi's have a silicone version already. Its only really a problem if you are increasing the boost. There is a corrugated section just under the intercooler that is paper thin.

Oops, just seen my spelling mistake. It was supposed to say Early Scoobs.

This was apparently an issue with the early Pre'96 Prodrive ECU upgrade. Hence why they stuck to below 1.0 BAR.

As I have and early Prodrive ECU and have uped the boost to 15psi, I would be interested in how I could guard against this.
