Hi folks, I need some help. I've had my manifold off to fit spacers and a Perrin silicone intake. After some challenges with wiring, I've put it back together but found that there's red power steering fluid all over the top of the block on the driver's side.

The Perrin hose really does push against the pump but surely it wouldn't cause a leak?

Any ideas?

You've either spilt some, or you (obviously) have a leak. Check your power steering fluid and top up as necessary, then clean up any spilt fluid thouroughly, plus the pump and surrounding pipes. Run the engine and turn the wheel a few times (you might have to go out for a short drive with turns), take a look to see if any is seeping out anywhere, follow the trace back to where it came from.

Done all this. I rinsed it all away but it came back and the level went down. This is all while just idling. I did work the pump by turning the wheel side to side before that but it very obviously came back after being cleaned away the first time.

Whereabouts are there pipes under the manifold that have pas fluid in them? I thought it was just the two along the side.

Bloody hell Jay best thing you could do with that car is punt on, all you ever do is have bloody problems with it

So I don't think there are any lines anywhere around the underside of the manifold. That means there's a leak. The banjo bolt is torqued up to 40nm. The pump has never leaked before, but it now has the big Perrin hose pushing against it and I'm wondering if it has disturbed a seal somehow. Perhaps it isn't mounted properly, I don't know.

Did you unbolt the PAS unit from the block when pulling the manifold off?
If i remember rightly, i unbolted mine and swung it slightly towards the radiator.
Or did you undo the banjo bolt for the line that goes into the top of the pump?

Anyhow id check the hard line for cracks, and the two pipes that run along side the drivers side head.

Just unbolted the banjo bolt. Never touched the pump unit itself. I decided to grab a new crush washer earlier and will chuck that on in the morning. Can't see it being the pipes down the side just because of where the fluid is, but in the morning I will get the tank topped up and get the Mrs to turn the wheel side to side while I look at it all. Hopefully it will all come to light.

Is the reservoir mounted on top of the pump, not sure which year car you have? IIRC it's an O-ring that forms the seal, so it could leak from there if you've disturbed it.

It's Newage so reservoir isn't on the pump.

It was this:


That was loose and I could unscrew it by hand. It was squirting fluid into the bottom of the inlet pipe and that was finding its way onto the block.
