Default Check Engine Light

Hi Guys,

Just purchased my first Impreza Turbo 2000 so very new to the whole Subaru world. I have a check engine light come on for the first 5 mins till the engine is warm, it then goes off and then have full power/boost and will not come on again, as soon as I switch it off leave it for a couple of hours/days is comes back on but does the same as described above, any ideas?

I have tried checking the faults and clearing the faults with the connectors under the dash but still the same. When I first got the car the check engine light was flashing (22) Knock Sensor, I have changed the knock sensor and carried out a reset but have this issue

Its a 1996(P Plate) Turbo 2000 with Pro Drive Performance Package

Any help would be much appreciated

Yes the sensor was torqued up correctly as for the sensor itself, I don't think its genuine. I got my parts manager at work to order it for me, cost about £20.
Just be informed by one of my work mates, that after I changed the knock sensor I didn't have the light on but then it blew a boost pipe. Changed that and have this issue, sorry

I know this might sound a bit silly but they don't have a safety system that wont let you drive it hard when cold???

You should be using an OEM sensor, also make sure the block is clean where the sensor sits.

Thanks for that, the thing is after fitting the knock sensor I didn't have a check engine light. It then blew a boost pipe, I changed the pipe and now get the issue as described above.

Even asked a couple of mechanic friends and they have no idea

The pipe that blew was the turbo to intercooler intake. somebody had done a terrible job of repairing the small pipe off it to the standard DV.

If you have cleared the code and it has returned, then the ecu is still seeing a issue with the knock sensor or its associated wiring.
