Default 2.35 advice

Just looking for some advice, iv been struggling to find a decent ej22 block at the right money, so iv now come across a closed deck 2.5 block which is already drilled for 14mm studs , question is do I keep it as a 2.5 or destroke to 2.35 using 75mm crank and longer rods .
Iv not driven a 2.5 but love the response and revs of my 2ltr sti with md321 so don't know which direction to go on engine build. Will more than likely be running rotated Borg efr7064 or 7670 when run in

what do you mean by plated 2.5 block?

I have a closed deck 2.5 in my type R and the low down grunt makes an epic road car, far better than the 2.0 for road use imo

o and the 2.5 will makes the 2.0 look like a lag monster

Closed deck inserts is what I meant by plated. will edit first post.
I won't be at 2.0ltrs either way, it's 2.5 or 2.35 I'm having built but wondered how many people have run 2.35 built from 2.5 block

once you closed deck a 2.5 will do 500 no problem and if you turn it into 2.35 you still have the issues with thin liners.plus you remove some fo the low down grunt.

Mine is maxed on the turbo, but graph speaks for itself,

Whats your redline on that setup ?

Looks like nothing to be had revving beyond 6k,

Although that much low down torque will make a monster on the road,

I prefer the idea of revving beyond 8k

Although making power at 8k and revving to 8k are two different things,

I don't get the whole de stroking route. It doesn't deal with the issue of the thin liners.
Which is the worst part of the 2.5. If your going 2.35 do it properly ej22

Precisely that ^^^

If you're starting with a 2.5, then, what with its thin cylinder walls which you can't do anything about (unless inserts or pinning), you may as well retain its cc for more torque/driveability (and bhp-potential). Just make sure it's properly built, that's all.

As said, if you want a 2.35, then start with the strong EJ22 block to begin with.

Otherwise, there's no logic in it.

Keep it as a 2.5 and retain the extra torque

Cheers all for the advice, will just stick with fully forged 2.5 now as block iv acquired has already got closed deck inserts and drilled for 14mm studs so should be a good base for quick low lag road car
