AS above thinking of getting a bolt in half cage for my blob.. seeing though I have harnesses in and don't use the back seats anyway.


What is every ones thoughts on them?

I would say no. If you dont use rear seats why not just strip it out and save abit of weight? My opinion is half cages just for looks and not going to protect the driver or front passenger should you roll it. If you do want something for looks why not go for a harness bar

 

Not a fan of the harness bar.. heard to many horror stories. Plus back seats don't weigh anything so not worth taking out. Help it be a little quieter aswell

 

Why not put a full cage in?
Actually adds some rigidity and serve a purpose.
I wouldn't want to roll a car with a half cage, pointless if you ask me

 

There's a nice harness bar on a forsalel thread that's just come up @ £150 perfect has pics of it looks nice when in aswell

 

Just messaged him about the harness bar now cheers.. What's everyone's views on them? Some people say there unless in a accident.. can bend and injur?

Don't take this in a wrong way but would you trust what someone says here if they haven't had first hand experience?!

What are you trying to achieve and are thinking of fitting a half cage or harness bar?

Harnesses need to be fitted at a correct angle, it's not just a matter of attaching them anywhere.

I would either fit a cage if it's a track car or leave alone if a road car.

 

I wouldn't use a harness bar for all the tea in China.
At the end of the day if you "think" you need a cage, then you need a full cage.
A half cage offers zero protection to the front of the car, the the a pillors or in case of a side impact, they are useless.

I have a safety devices full cage in mine and it was in whilst it was a road car.

Looks like a Safety Dynamics FIA bolt in cage,you still have to weld in the base plates then the cage mounts to them and bolts in,Good cage.SJ.

It's for mlr 22b sprint class regulations. The class Darren competed in and won! Stipulates car must carry a full interior

Running around on the road with a full cage sounds dangerous, potential for serious head injuries. Okay when used with a helmet and harness.

 

How did you figure that out?I have driven cars with cages lots of times on the public roads,as long as you are strapped in properly you wont be going anywhere in a proper bucket seat how much GT3 RS owners drive around with a helmet on the streetsOnly track mate.SJ.

 

The cage costs £1800 fitted. That included taking all the interior and dash out and refitting.

 

Is that cage in a newage? where did you buy it from?

 

IMO go full weld in cage, or no cage at all. Even with a bolt in, you'll end up having to weld base plates, and you'll have to cut the interior etc, but it will not make the car as rigid as properly tied in weld in cage.


Why do you need a cage, btw?

 

Harnesses without a full cage is a bad idea.
Full cage without a crash helmet is a bad idea.
Fitting either in anything other than a dedicated track for is therefore ill-advised.

IMHO

 

I would love a proper weld in cage, and eventually I will get one put in, but in the mean time a bolt in cage should add a bit of protection and allow me to safely use my harness and helmet.

Most of my interior is stripped already and I know someone who can weld the mounts in for a bolt in. So it could be an affordable option for me.
