Whats the recommended options for fitting a boost solenoid

 

decent 3 port for mapping and done. ECU is there to control the boost

 

Any recommendations on which solenoid I should go with ?

It it okay to fit this then drive off boost on mapping day?

Just be aware,I bought a swrd one for my v3sti,they are supposed to be plug and play with the harness provided. NOT the case darrell told me after I bought it that I would have to cut the wires and solder the thing on!
Not sure on other version/models?

I don't suppose it's too much bother to solder my swrd one in but I wish I'd have known it wasn't just plug&play before I bought it!

 

The SWRD 3 port is the Pierberg unit that Prodrive used to supply. Darrell supplies the plug and play harness like Prodrive used to. It plugs straight into a newage car or Foz but will probably need soldering for a classic as mentioned.


My SWRD 3 port just plugged straight in and worked straight away like an OEM unit. Simples!

 

There are other UK suppliers of this...and "they" do the pre-99 version as a plug-and-play kit as well as the '99-on

Same goes for the complete kit which we list at £72 delivered but I do appreciate that's more than SWRD charge

 

id be interested in this too - have a SWRD waiting to go on a classic and assumed it would be plug and play !

 

99-onward (V5-on) use the same as the newage; it's the 92-98 models that need the different type.

 

To be honest, £72 for the solenoid with plug and play loom is still a great price!

You have some great products and I for one would be interested in the boost solenoid harness,a clutch switch for FF shift and possibly an MY97 coil conversion loom if the price is right
I'm sure you would get a lot of interest on these and other thing you sell.

Happy to be involved in a Group Buy - but I gave up trader status as I was getting nothing back for the money it cost me! I would assume any GB thread started by me would get zapped as the paid-up traders (SWRD!) would (rightly) complain.

But if someone else wants to "own" such a thread, I can supply prices vs. quantities for any of the parts people might be interested in

For example:

• Toucan

• Syvecs Expansion Unit
• Coilpack conversion looms
• AVCS conversion looms
• 3 port boost solenoids

Any individual can "organise" a group buy, you don't have to be a paid-up trader or anything, as you're not advertising your own goods.

im still on the suspension/subframe part of my rebuild - engines not until late next year - id only rly buy one if it was too cheap to pass on for now

 

Haha ok Ash no worries,I'll probably just end up buying one of the harnesses off JTI and a clutch switch for my ffshift(might as well since it's on the car)
I will give it a week and if a GB isn't set up then will pay full price,pretty cheap at full anyway
May look into the newage coil pack loom at a later date.

Just on a side note @ @TimH do you have any plans for the future to make the toucan compatible with the ESL? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that but thought I'd ask anyway

 

I did dialogue with ESL on this, and basically I need to get Toucan working with the underlying SSM protocol first and then we can look at whether there's anything we could do to extend the protocol to expose more data.

SSM needs a different interface on the pre-CANbus (pre-Hatch I think) cars (K-line if I remember rightly). So I need to design or source a small (inexpensive) external thingy that plugs in to the diagnostic port/OBD connector and converts K-line to RS232 or CANbus, and then get some software done.

I do like the idea of having Toucan essentially replace the old PSi-3 display. I need to get Googling as I'm sure there'll be some SSM software out there to plunder!

So, that's a long winded way of saying "yes...but needs some work first"!
