Default Will the standard intake pipe fit straight onto an SC42?

Scoobyclinic website says that the turbos are direct bolt on etc. But I just want to make sure all my bases are covered...

So I assume that the standard turbo intake pipe will fit onto an SC42? Or will I need to go for an aftermarket silicone pipe?

Cheers

Usually, if something is described as direct fit, then you shouldn't need to modify anything else.

In any case, a silicone aftermarket hose will be exactly the same pattern as the OEM plastic hose, so that aspect wouldn't alter, regardless.

The only reason you might HAVE to change to a replacement hose is if the turbo's inlet was 76.2mm (3"), instead of the OEM 57.1mm (2.25"). (Regardless though, you can still change to a silicone hose should you wish - as many people do). But because it's described a direct fit, then it will - or at least should(!) - be the OEM size inlet.

And for the record, their SC range ARE all like-for-like direct fit (i.e. for both SS and TS variants).

When it comes to turbos, "direct fit/bolt-on" means exactly that. Remove old, fit new, and everything will (or should!) be in exactly the same place as the OEM setup.

yeah that's exactly what I thought. I just don't want to be caught out during the turbo swap I'll see if I can clarify the inlet size.

I know where you're coming from.

I'm exactly the same... Nothing worse than when you're halfway through a job and it suddenly dawns on you that you don't have everything at hand to complete -- despite being all conscientious beforehand by collating everything together you THOUGHT you needed. Immensely frustrating/annoying!

yep, I think we've all been there before lol

From doing some more research, it certainly appears that the standard inlet pipe will go straight onto the SC42 housing. Although it looks as if good branded silicone ones have performed better - SFS, Perrin, Samco etc.

cheers mate

If you do get a silicone intake, then I'd only ever buy from those 3 top brands you mention. Some (cheap) ones have been known to collapse under high boost (i.e. very low pressure, pre-turbo) conditions.

Yes the sc42 inlet is same size as stock 56-57mm.
While it's off May aswell get a silicone one fitted as flow will be rubbish with stock plastic one with loads of ribbed edges inside.
Pointless fitting an aftermarket turbo on a stock intake hose.

SC42 is direct fit, original inlet pipe will fit however recommend to upgrade to perrin while your at it, as said, good brand required as cheap ones collapse under boost!

I was told to keep stock inlet hose on my sc42 as others collapse under boost or increase surge ?

Are there gains there ?

I did the same on my STi 5. Still made 384 (on a 20g) with the std plastic intake hose in place. (I too was worried about collapsing under boost, so simply took that aspect out of the equation... And saved up to £200 to boot).

Who knows if it would have made a bit more on an internally smooth silicone...?

Road software says approx. 427bhp & 380ft/lbs so anything above 400 will keep me happy

Iirc martyn did a back to back with a plastic intake vs silicone Perrin one and it was a fair bit of gain just by inlet.
Thread is somewhere but I'm crap at searching

Yeah, if I ever do further power mods/remap in the future, I WILL move to a decent silicone intake.

At the time, I sort of overlooked it. Ah well.

If it's being mapped, is it going mafless, If it is i'd ditch the OEM intake and breathers for a catch can and put a straight intake with no take offs on it, do it once

That'd be my situation.

Can you get silicone intakes with just the one take-off for a recirc DV? I know RCM do a black one, but that is as you describe i.e. NO take-offs.

Good luck getting one without take offs, only lateral sell them I believe and at a great cost and also a preorder jobbie I think.

RCM do one.

http://rogerclarkmotorsport.co.uk/st...nduction-hose#

Says for the Hawk. But it looks like it will fit under all the years' inlet manifolds (MY93-96 aside, because of top entry turbo).

Mind, that diagonal angled bend might be a problem...

That's perfect actually, never knew otherwise I'd of bought one, cheaper too.
That bend at turbo end is important as most don't have a good kink like that and cause it to get trapped behind inlet manifold.
Good find.
I have the lateral one.

http://lateralperformance.co.uk/sect...n_intake_pipes

Picture is just illustration but they have a kink depends on version and some manifolds have less room than others
