I've replaced my rocker cover gasket, car has been in driveway a few nights monitoring for any leaks, I made sure to burn off the excess oil after fitting also.

Had the engine running whilst I pumped up the tyres (20 mins?) then went for a 2 minute drive only spooling the turbo once.

Pic below - loads of smoke coming from the exhaust manifold, but rocker cover looks dry! Very small spot of oil now on the driveway too :/ any ideas what else might be leaking? Bit gutted as was about to do MOT prep haha.

Did you replace just the rocker cover gasket or do the full set,spark plug gasket,bolt seals and half moon seals?

 

If you are lucky it's only burning the oil that leaked when you did the work, it's quite a messy job.

 

It was on the driver's side so I bought the full kit, inc. oil seperator gasket (it's a Turbo 2000.)

This is actually my second drive in it, I did another drive a couple days back pretty much completely off-turbo with only a little smoke which then disappeared so I assumed it had all burned off.

Read somewhere sometimes the Turbo Oil Return Feed can fail? Really just trying to think what else it could possibly be. Visual inspection shows a dry rocker cover so I don't think it's due to fitting the gasket incorrectly.

I did the rocker cover gaskets on both sides on my blob and it's virtually impossible not to get oil on the exhaust manifold (drivers side) and as I only do 10mins each way to work it took months for all the oil to fully burn off. The burning oil smell only completely disappeared after a 4hr round trip on the motorway!

 

Ha, I'll keep my fingers crossed then, going in for MOT soon and don't want to coat the garage in oil!

It wasn't smoking much and the smoke had gone away at idle so seeing it come back was worrying! Ah well, here's hoping.

 

There's also a little fabric heat pad in the uppipe heat shield that gets oil in it.
I also found that when you change the gasket oil leaks along the bottom of the engine and slowly drips down.
If you can get under there and wipe with a rag.
I had a turbo leak oil and it doesn't leak onto anything hot enough to burn.

 

Just an update - car is completely smoke and leak free. Job done, turns out I was just paranoid cheers!

did mine two weeks ago - was worried having read your post - but all was fine. Bit daunting to start with, but was quite straightforward. Only worrying bit was nearly catching new gasket on valves when putting cover back on.....!
