Exhaust leak, Please confirm what component name?

It's the 2nd of two cats, or at least the photo depicts the heat-shield of the 2nd cat.

 

Normally corrode and leak where the flange is welded on

 

cheers mate, it's making a horrid noise under mild accel, Spoke again with my Dad, he says the heatshield itself is not the issue in his opinion. So I expect you're right

 

Or the gasket is knackered - an excuse to get a decat pipe ��

 

It's not the gasket, that's what i was hoping for when it was taken to be visually inspected.

As for decatting, I shall try and obtain prices first for a standard replacement second cat, because it barely passed it's recent emission test, though car hadn't been driven properly for 3yrs SORN.
