Default sudden misfire/cutting of boost

Just wondered if anyone had experience of this problem I am having.

I have 2003 Impreza WRX : Cat back exhaust
Cold air intake with a cone filter mounted in the wheel arch
Stage 1 map

Every now and again when I accelerate hard all of a sudden the car jolts like a misfire. Just once and then it is ok again. This brings on the engine management light which will disappear again a few days later.

Had the code read and was told it was to do with the wastegate valve thinking there was too much boost and cutting it. So I had the boost pipes and wastegate solenoid checked and cleaned and hoped that was that.

But it has done it again only 1 week later.
One thing I think all the events have in common is that it has been raining and a wet road every time. I dont know if this has anything to do with it.

Would be grateful if anyone could shed some light.

thanks

what's the boost gauge reading when it happens? Speak to the mapper and ask what the fuel cut values are set to then compare it to your boost gauge readings - might be just simple overboost kicking in as I've seen a few cars with that recently thanks to the drop in temps.

Is it like a neck breaking jerk but drives ok if you drive nice and easy try planting your foot down and it tyres breaking your neck on the jerk?? As mine did that and the vacuum pipe had been left unsecure and cracked on the boost solenoid side so couldn't tell refresh your vacuum pipes in case you have a pinhole or a crack even had a garage look at it no names and they couldn't see nothing wrong with it!! And neither did the mapper as he changed the boost solenoid to a 3port and didn't put the vacuum on proprley!! so he had to map it again silly Numpty again no names being mentioned

I dont have a boost gauge fitted but yes it should make sense to have a word with the mapper although it was the previous owner who had that done.

Yes it is a pretty violent jerk. Im worried its damaging the engine. Can see it potentially snapping a piston rod. Yes it is fine if I take it easy, in fact its fine a lot of the time when I accelerate hard too. Jst every now and again it does this.

I will take it back in today and see what they say. Thanks for the replies.

sounds like it might just be boost cut - probably due to the colder temps. Boost gauge and fuel pump should be #1 mods on any car though.

My advice is just take a bit of time and replace all vacuum pipes and make sure the restricting pill thingie is in one of he pipes sure someone on here will re tidy my crappy wording as that pill in the vacuum makes a difference if you were closer I would have been more than happy to sort it as when I replaced my vacuum pipes and remapped it it was fine but even before the remap after I'd replaced the cracked pipe it was boosting fine don't boot it mate as it'll knacker your engine my knocklink was going mental when this jerking was occuring meaning bad detonation!! Vacuum pipe will only cost you couple of quid mate

I didnt think the CEL came on if hitting fuel cut/overboost?
Get a code reader, cheap as chips they are, that way you can read your own in the future.
Might be as said, bad pipe or simply needs boost limit raised slightly,
May also be faulty knock sensor or Maf just needing a clean?

you can get fuel cut without the cel if it's been mapped - it just depends on the timing of it all and how close the fuel cut and fuel cut cel values are

Got a fault code P0244 wastegate solenoid valve A (high input)

Searching the web there are a lot of people with this code.

Im sure the restricting pill thing is in there I can feel a hard lump in one of the pipes.

Pipes have been checked, wastegae is holding boost fine but they did say something about the boost control valve or more precisely the spring looking a little worn and floppy.
