Default Oil leak woes

I have an oil leak on my 1996 Impreza UK 2000 turbo, and from what I could tell, it was coming from around the turbo. I was assuming it was the oil return pipe, as this is a known fault. I bought a second hand turbo and fitted it today. Now when I took the old turbo off, there was a small pool of oil on the head, which was far too high for it to be the oil return pipe. I cleaned it all up, fitted the new turbo, but it still leaks. I thought it may be the head gasket, but I have no bubbles, and the oil and water are not mixing. I thought, if the head gasket was leaking externally, it would only be coolant, am I wrong, and could anyone please guide me, as I'm getting many different answers and after fixing these suggestions, the problem remains.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Picture would be very useful in situation like this. Likely sources for the leak though might be crank-case breather pipework, EGR return pipe, or maybe even the power-steering bottle if it's in that area.

I will get a couple pics tomorrow, it's a little late now. But thanks for that info, I will check all the above and get some pictures at the same time.
Much appreciated.
