The head castings are normally the same but the valvetrain differs between the WRX and STi's eg Cam lift and duration, valves, valve springs and shim type.

I would also be intrested if some one could answer it. I have a 98 v4 type r import but the engine when so I managed to by a cheap full forged engine but from a uk wrx. Instead of taking the complete heads off and having to replace a perfectly good head gasket could I just swop the internals over. Ie cams etc or are the actual valves different. And sorry for jumping on someone else's post.

Hi mate you come Ted on this post and I would also like to know the answer. As I have a 98 v4 type r import but the engine when so I managed to by a cheap full forged engine but from a uk wrx. Instead of taking the complete heads off and having to replace a perfectly good head gasket and head bolts, could I just swop the internals over? You say the valves different so would that stop me? Much appreciated if you could help. Thanks
