Toyosports Exhaust Manifold... What have I done... :( low boost?
My up-pipe was cracked right on the flange where it meets the turbo. Shopping around I saw the Toyosports manifold on ebay, £119 new for manifold and up-pipe!
I knew it wouldn't have been the best quality job but for £100 I thought i'd take the risk, oh boy do i feel stupid now.
It took me 2 days to fit it, a whole day just getting the old one off
I don't know if anyone else has tried these or if it's just the one I've got but it's terrible quality. The whole thing seems to sit way too low, it's about 3 inches lower than the OEM manifold.
As soon as i get paid it's coming straight back off! I cringe every time i hit a speed bump...
The other problem I've got is I'm only hitting 0.4 bar boost? To get the old up-pipe off I had to take the turbo off and drag the whole lot round the back of the engine.
When i rebuilt it all started the key and idle was terrible, CEL light was on. Turned out id missed a pipe and had a massive vacuum leak.
Now nothing seems to be leaking, the turbo spools up way faster than when it was blowing, and i can't see any evidence of exhaust blowing anywhere.
Negative vacuum is ok at idle.
I don't understand why my boost is so low? could it be that the new up-pipe is too restrictive or something like that?
Sorry for the essay i'm just a bit stumped on this one
please don't flame me for buying cheap cr@p parts either, I'm already dissappointed with myself for being so tight... haha
This is a 1995 classic im on about by the way

If the up pipe that you've got is the same as the ones I've seen, it's too big in diameter
and I'm guessing the exhaust gasses are not going fast enough to spool the turbo up properly.

Going to stick a manual boost controller on make sure it's not the ECU limiting boost for some reason.
Also just looked up how to reset / read the ecu so will have a play with that as well.
In the meantime I still need a decent set up, is there a decent aftermarket up-pipe that will bolt onto the OEM manifold?

Hi there
I would remove Toyosport parts from the car,as above Toyosport they're terrible quality and as above Duncan has tested them and he have with them very bad experience
Due this I would remove them and sell them over on eBay or in better case scrap them, they're not worth
I know if you are on budget, but you can go with stock/OEM headers with OEM Up pipe which will be big improvement over Toyosport
Toyosport Up pipe is oversized and can cause restriction and can cause lots of other issues, mainly car will be laggier(slow to spool) or will make lot less power
Decent Up pipe then I would go with Harvey Up pipe from AS Performance
And about the Manual Boost controller MBC,I wouldn't fit that,if budget allows source ESL daughterbaord
Good luck there
Thanks,Jura

Emailed AS performance for a quote on an up-pipe.
I'm dreading doing this job again, at least it'll be a bit quicker this time everything won't be rusty and rounded off now.
Hopefully this post will put anyone else off wasting their time with these headers.

Had one of those up pipes with the flexy which you can see on ebay etc on my P1 and the internal diameter was almost big enough to put my big head in and the car ran but seemed lacking so i fitted a slip joint type up pipe and the car was transformed and runs like it should.
