Default Car Won't Start ??

Hi all,

I've got a 94 version 1 import in what's considered mint condition that is regularly serviced and maintained.

One day I was driving with no issues at all then the car just died, I noticed when I was turning the key I could not hear the fuel pump priming which was odd as it's usually very loud so I bought a new unit and fitted it after testing it and again still would not prime ?

So I decided to buy 2 new fuel pump relays just in case and again no priming ?

Checked all fuses, all ok. Checked all engine and chassis earths ect and even re done them all fresh and tested all ok but still no priming of the pump.

Next I bought a new crankshaft sensor but surprise surprise no change ??

Baffled at this point I manually applied voltage to the pump so it was running but the car won't start !? I can't verify 100% yet but it's as though there is no blooming spark too ?

Please has anyone ever experienced anything like this that can assist with some tips or advice as I'm past desperate now and I fear a garage will charge stupid money for hours of labour trying to solve this issue ?

I would be very grateful for some help.

Many Thanks

Has the car got an immobiliser?
Have you checked the black connecting block under the rear bench seat?(prone to shorting out)
Did you check the white connecting block on top of the pump for corrosion?

I've had a new sigma fitted about 7 months ago but this only cuts the starter and ignition live and is not connected in anyway to the pump.

All other connections have been checked and tested and are all ok

It's got me stumped

Basingstoke, I did ask subaru4u in Newbury but they were not too keen to look at this issue which was weird.

Checked if any power is getting to the connecting blocks?
Also look at ecu pin outs see if you're getting a live to the pins

There is no power to the connecting plugs no but I did apply power manually to the pump to get it running but even so the car still won't start.

Any idea where I can get information to what ecu pins I need to look at ?

I had a spare standard ecu which for the record I tried and still this made no difference so I'm pretty confident ruling out any issues with the ecu.

If you're not in a hurry, you could call Surrey Subaru Specialists, and see if they're more keen, they are always booked up weeks in advance nower days, they're based in Camberley GU15 2QR, off the M3 but may be able to trailer it for you etc etc

Ok mate thanks, appreciate the recommendation. I only hope it's something stupid and straight forward.

It's not much fun staring at it stuck in the car park !!

I believe there is a fuel pump relay down by the steering column? Not 100% Sure of the exact location on your car but worth a check.
Did you test all fuses in both fuse boxes?

Yes there are two and wow there fun to get too lol

One I believe is for the priming and the other is for the running of the pump but both have been replaced with new so I can rule that out.

All fuses in both boxes all ok too

I'm no mechanic hence previous suggestion, but coilpacks? Again could get expensive to keep replacing parts yourself when a garage has components readily on hand and testing gear

Possible break in the wiring? I know the loom runs on top of the fuel tank so can be hard to access,it will be a case of tracing the wires and checking continuity.
