Ah I didn't know that. Its an 03 mate. I'm guessing it just has the cat in the up pipe then because it has an aftermarket downpipe

Yea if it has a decat downpipe and mid section then yea up pipe it is. The only downside is that if you run too much boost and the cat begins to break down, it heads into the turbo.

Out of interest, which of the 3 Cats is most restrictive in terms of performance? On the basis that one has to be kept for MoT, which one is it advisable to retain (or swap for a Sports Cat)?

if you have to keep one for MOT then bin all 3 standard ones and get a PPP sports cat.

The uppipe cat as brendy says is more for safety than power, the secondary downpipe cat isn't up to much so the bulk of the work is done by the primary cat (in the downpipe first one after the turbo).

If your in there scrubbing about then you might as well go the extra hassle and fit a PPP sportscat which has a much nicer bellmouth design over the standard downpipe.

I have a Bugeye PPP, so presuming that it has the Sportscat downpipe. So decat the up-pipe and centre section (secondary down-pipe)?

a bugeye WRX ppp has a standard downpipe - a bugeye STI PPP has the sportscat. Just look behind your turbo you should see the difference. If you can see take a pic and post it up. If you have an STI then you don't have the uppipe cat to worry about anyway so your good to go.

if you have the Uppipe cat then you have the standard downpipe regardless of PPP - so you'll still be in the market for that.

It's a WRX PPP - so everything got a little more expensive, lol. Does the WRX PPP just have a cat-back exhaust change then? So easiest/cheapest route is to source an STi up-pipe and an STi PPP Sportscat and straight through from there? I'd imagine that STi PPP Sportscat are quite rare though? Downpipe sporscats seem very expensiver. Can a decat downpipe be used and then a sportscat just fitted further along in the system or does that cause issues with the O2 sensors?

the WRX PPP was just a backbox, remap and the prodrive intercooler pipe.

STI up-pipe, PPP sportscat and then straight through from there is as handy as any. If your on a super tight budget then you can mash the cats from your existing standard pipes but you won't make the same peak figures as those who've spent the cash on quality kit.

The o2 sensors don't really matter, it's normal enough to disable the codes for the rear o2 when mapping the car and the front o2 is up near the engine anyway so it has no way of knowing what your cats are at.

The sports cats aren't rare but there are other vendors if you start snuffling around on ebay. Personally I would try mattyBR5 on here, he usually has lots of bits about and he's easy paid. I wouldn't bother trying to reinvent the wheel with decat pipes and add on cats - stick with what works and you won't be disappointed.

Cheers. Had a look at a few companies and they were asking silly money for Sportscat d/ps, so was seeing if there were better options. Will hunt out some STi goodies.

Japspeed ones aren't bad for brand spanking, they usually have a discount code on too for scoobynet peeps, send Ed a message and ask for scoobynet discounts:

They removed the last cat too on a PPP, still had up and down pipe cats though.
