MPG Curiosity
Morning all,
Probably going to get a load of t055ers post "if you're worried about MPG why buy a scoob" but thats not what im here for. i've had a 350z i know about silly MPG.
Anyway i recently got hold of my JDM hatch and im just gauging how different it is in terms of MPG which is proving hard.
Firstly the car reads in KM/L which i think works out that if it reads 10 km/l im doing about 24MPG. The thing is ive been doing a 20 mile round motorway trip at 60mph for the last week and its telling me im doing about 12MPG. This cannot be right since i haven't put my footdown at all!
Can some JDM owners please shed the light on what MPG i should be getting and why its telling me im getting so little?
Thanks

ignore the computer, fill it up, see what milage its on, drive it for a week or how ever long it takes till it needs filling up again. Calculate miles per gallon and see where you are.

I wouldn't be surprised if it varies WILDLY from car to car. My mildly tuned classic WRX used to regularly return 29mpg (properly calculated) where most people report that classics are thirsty. My newage WRX gets around 22, despite being a more efficient design... Go figure.

Since buying my first Impreza (2003 Blobeye WRX) a fortnight ago, I began recording my MPG. I use a phone app called My Cars and record how much fuel I put in, what the odometer shows and it makes all the calculations for me.
In my first week of ownership I was obviously very excited to have a performance car and was using the performance a lot (it's my first turbo'd petrol car). I averaged 23.33 mpg.
On my next tank I drove as economically as I practically could. I know these cars are thirsty but I wanted to see what it was capable of if, say, we had a family holiday drive to Cornwall or something. So, on my second tank I was doing 65mph on my motorway commute (I was in no hurry to get to work), kept the revs below 3,000 all the time (took a lot of will-power but I kept off boost) and accelerated and braked smoothly. Driving like a granny basically, but in the name of science.
My new average MPG? 22.73 mpg!! Over half a mile less to each gallon of V-Power! I couldn't believe it and it made no sense to me. I checked the figures and recalculated it, but its true.
My only conclusion is that I should just drive it how its meant to be driven, enjoy the performance and not worry about the economy. Which suits me.

Yeah i have no issues with the MPG as i said the car i replaced was a 350z which was mad on fuel, it was merely curisoty as to what i should be expecting

If you want to see decent economy you NEED a boost gauge, my average is always around 28mpg on a long run I get 36mpg @ 70/80mph, I happen to like the fact I get decent economy when I'm just doing run of the mill stuff, then I don't feel too bad when I have a week like last week and do a tank full in 200 miles

My old newage mapped wrx (280bhp) averaged 36 mpg
My standard blob sti (275bhp) averaged 30 mpg
Same car now running 435bhp now averages 16 mpg
Thats with mixed driving with the majority on the motorway and a little play now and again.
Miles per gallon has dropped but smiles per gallon has drastically increased

My 2005 blob sti averages about 200miles per tank, the most I've had out of it is 300 to a tank on a motorway run not exceeding 80mph. Its only a 50 ltr / 11gallon tank so judging by some of the other replies i might be in need of a map.
