coil packs for V4 heads on a V1-V2 car
Hello, im going to replace the engine in my Subaru Legacy RS 1993 with a new engine with STI V4 heads, the V3-V4 runs one coil pack on the inlet manifold and then leads down to the spark plugs. But the Legacy is nearly the same as a Impreza V1-V2 and runs coil pack on each spark plug so this will cause problems. The Legacys coil packs are 2 bolt and the Impreza coil packs are 1 bolt with phase 1 engines.
I have not got the new engine home yet so i have not had a look att the valve covers, but if they are the same as V5-V6 then coil packs wont fit on them, the Legacy coil packs are not so good anyway so replacing them is not the big issue, the problem is what to replace them with and how?
I have seen some people fitting new age coil packs on older engines but i dont know how to do it?
Anyone got tips?

hmm.
Coil on plug to Coil pack. Most go other way and newer.
V1 & V2 Coil on plug sucked.
Good news is both use an external ignitor. (at fender well) I don't recall them being any different wiring wise.
So you just need to figure out how to rewire for the pack.
Here is a link but for the reverse (and newer)

But should allow you to figure it out.
