Question regarding inlet manifold
Hi people I have a my95 classic and it has a raised inlet manifold,
Fitted with thermal gasket, anyway the question is would I need to fit a gasket
Each side of the raised thermal gasket to secure a air tight fit. Any advise would be much appriciated

FMJ. I can't quite grasp your conclusion on "0" ring been better as par sa.
Maybe that's what your using ? The likes of advance automotives etc
I personally use the Grimmspeed & they work great. Am I to see a further drop from switching ( I think not ) diff design is all .
In fact ( free plug ha ha ) they go as far to state there product can & has been used with gasket & without. ( no gasket no "0" ring just the thermal... ( must be better then right ?
Course not , just diff design

When I said better I should have said better because these are cheaper to work with. As said above you have to buy twice as many OE gaskets as stock to fit the flat ones (About £25 a set). The O-ring ones just use Viton O-rings costing pence each.
Yes you could use it without anything as you could with the O ring versions too. You could also use nothing if both metal surfaces were flat enough. Or just some sealant, or some ABS plastic sheet cut out etc etc There are loads of things that might work but the material the spacers are made of isn't a gasket material is it? (otherwise they would be limited to one of a few uses) and they are likely to seal far better with a gasket or o-ring. Especially as it is likely that neither surface is 100% flat (I know mine weren't)
Also I am fairly sure all are copies of Carl Davey's original design. A design that he upgraded to the O-ring version.... guess he just did that for fun?
But if you are so defensive over the gasket design then luckily you are entitled to your own opinion. Which lets be honest. 99% of the stuff stated on here is opinion. Some with more evidence then others but still all opinion.
Both will offer the same cooling properties which needs the coolant bypass and header tank isolate to really work well.

Yeah they both do the job. I just always think of how much things will cost to fix when they break or how much spare parts cost etc (as lets face it most things break) So when I am building, anything I can do to make things cheaper or easier I do. Hence I have relocated and binned a lot of engine bay stuff so it can't go wrong and so it isn't in the way .
