Default sc36 turbo

Just purchased a brand new sc36 turbo. Should there be any play in the shaft?

Where was it from? Make sure you use the correct oil as I had one on my last impreza and when the garage serviced it the oil apparently evaporated in the turbo and shot it after 1000 miles.

There will always be some play in a journal bearing. Should not excessive though.

The up and down movement if very minimal will be taken up by the oil, but in and out (end float) is rebuild time!!

Im gonna assume by up and down you mean side to side and not an explanation mark in sight.

The movement you don't want a turbine shaft to have is 'longitudinal'.
