Default Cam belt question

I'm doing my cambelt as I have no history with the car! Now I found a guard on the on the crank sprocket now I've done this job on a scooby before and don't recall seeing this guard ! It's clearly been rubbing on the belt so lucky I decided to change the belt! Now do you throw these away or not?

Im not sure if they have them as standard but I know after market ones can be bought. Either way it shouldnt be rubbing on the belt.

Is the tensioner working properly? Maybe if it was a bit looser than it should be it might rub.

Yes it should be there, and has to be adjusted/fitted correctly as there is quite some slack in the bolt holes for adjustment.

I've found it in an old timing book. Apparently you set the gap with a feeler gauge between the belt and the plate . Clearly the last person didn't . Cheers for the input lads.

I normally do it by eye, making sure the radius looks even all round and the clearance is there, probably .5-1mm at a guess, not had any problems at tht

I have shimmed the PRV on the oil pump on mine, four m6 washers behind the spring. Gives better oil pressure and flow

Cant drive like a hemelet when the engines stone cold incase you blow the oil filter off.
Maybe tiny bit more cold start fuel consumption.
Big end bearings will last longer though. How long is always te question anyway on a second hand engine, but longer
