Exclamation New Subaru Owner - Need help/Advice

Hi Guys,

I've been a long time Scooby admirer but I'm seriously concerned over my recent (and first) purchase. After saving money and keeping my eyes out for a decent motor for over a year, I finally found one I though ticked all the boxes. I'd done my research, had a checklist of things and even took a friend who is car savvy with me to view it.

Everything was fine on the test drive and on the 50 mile trip when I picked it up. When I went to start it a week later, it fired up fine but the was a battery light was on. The dealer said that he had put a new battery in as the old one wasn't the best, at this point I'm not too concerned as I can always replace it if its a dodgy one. It was when I tried to pull out that I realized the power steering had failed too...I mean I can't even turn the damn wheel.

The engine runs fine but it just ain't going anywhere! During the week I did get to drive it, there was some slight resistance when I first started up the engine from cold and turned the wheel to pull out. This would go immediately after I pulled away.

Has anyone had anything similar happen to them? What could I be looking at?

Its just got me slightly concerned with Christmas round the corner...

All help is greatly appreciated!

Just sounds like the belt that drives the alternator and power steering pump has snapped or fell off. A cheap and easy fix.

Hi Ian, thanks for getting back to me. Is this the belt that's shown in the video below?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help! This morning with more light it was pretty obvious where the problem was (see image below). The belt was shredded! I'm just on my way over to pick up another one then I'm going to try fitting it myself.

Thanks Again!

Z

Haha! In my defense it was dark and I did have to fish around to find it! I couldn't get to the parts shop in time so it's going to have to wait until Monday

Ok after a lot of messing about mainly due to not having the correct tools the belt has been replaced and I'm back on the road for £7.89! Pics of replaced belt and my baby below!
