Default Car smells

Hi there I have a impreza wrx 2.0 on a 05 plate I havent had it long and this is my first subaru.
I have noticed that the engine smells like its getting real hot (antifreeze sort
If smell) the gauge is only showing 3/4 and not near the red but also the engine heats up what I would say is quick and also if I go for a 30min drive and then pull over and sit with the engine running within 2 mins the cooling fan comes on for 30sec to a min and then goes off and then a few minutes it repeats.
My old car took take ages for the cooling fan to come on, I'm not loosing any fluid at all and oil and antifreeze is clean is this normal for these types of car.

My 05 WRX temp gauge never goes past 1/2 way, usually sits just under it. If it's 3/4's all the time, you may have an air lock in the cooling system. When was the coolant last changed?

Well it's my gauge show just between half and 3/4 I've only had my car for a month, I did have it serviced with a new cam kit and my mechanic said my coolant seemed fresh so he just topped it up but these issues were there before and after my service.

So if it smelt fresh, it has likely been changed not long before you took ownership?

Are you sure it's not an oil smell?

No it's definitely a coolant smell maybe I'm worrying about nothing I've just never had a car where the cooling fan comes on after a 30min drive and then I could smell that smell, I put a sheet underneath when I got home from work and checked 20mins after switching off and know signs of any leaks.
Thanks for your help

Coolant always sits below half way on mine, 3/4 sounds too high.

Sounds like the system has not been filled properly. I would start by having a coolant change by a Subaru specialist.

I did think that but I've been told there really good now and don't block anything they shouldn't but I must admit I did think sometimes the cheapest way isn't the best
