gt30 billet engine queery??
Hi guy's
Basically I've got an sti type r just bought a turbo with rcm twisted kit, headers reversed inlet manifold, and intercooler to suit, my problem is I'm unsure weather what I've got internally will be able to handle the power?, the motor was built last year by tegsport, I'm going to change the block, to closed deck, the pistons are mahle, the rods are teg sport??? It's printed on the side of the rods, I'm planning on calling them to see what they are, my main worry is will the standard ej20 crank cope, and will the lag be ridiculous if I just changed the block around these parts? Has anyone run a billet gt30 on a 2ltr? I'm trying to stick to a reasonable budget so don't want to waste money where not needed
Any info would be great thanks Adam

Hi there
Yes as above will be bit laggy, but should make nice power and as above upgrade headstuds at least to Cosworth 260k 11mm headstuds or if budget allow 14mm
Few people run on 2.0L twisted G30,most of people rather going with 2.1L at least than 2.0L
Hope this help
Thanks,Jura

Will it be a huge difference in turbo spool up between 2ltr and 2.1, what I'm getting at is will spending the extra cash on crank be notably different?, surely it's only the case of a couple hundred rpm max boost spool up?? How much is a stroker crank or does the ej25 one bolt in? And what capacity would this give me?? Sorry Scooby newbie, my friends call me johnny.....5 need input! Lol

Not huge difference, but will be there difference,I would say around 300-500rpm
EJ257 crank should cost around £400-£500 and not sure what length rods are yours and what pistons are,if they're normal, then you will need stroker pistons..
On some stroker pistons you can use standard length rods, capacity should be close 2.1L
Thanks,Jura

Thanks guy's I think I'll try using the internals I've got, and just change the block, and use the money for a uprated oil pump, cooler, and alloy rad, then see how she drive's, if I'm not happy I can buy stroker kit at a later date, I was just concerned the piston, rod, crank combo would be strong enough, but seems they will from your comments, so build is on! Any other must do's when building the motor or just the usuals can you get Arp block bolts?

Just because from reading the forum stuff, it seems 500+ is cdb, I wouldn't mind giving it a go but don't want to damage heads if bottom end fails, just being cautious as its my first Subaru, the turbo should be good for 550, and also found out today, it has 1mm oversize pistons, weaken the block further? Thoughts?

No it is not a cdb for 500+, I ran 523 on a semi closed deck block and Engine tuner have run 500-510 on an open deck block. 1mm oversize pistons are fine you wont have any issues with them. It is preferable to have a closed deck block over 500 but not a necessity unless you want go beyond 600 at some point
