replace V2 impreza Slanty TMIC
I know this has been talked about before but there seems to be mixed opinions when looking back through the forums.....
its a prefacelift
I dont mind getting my hands dirty but just need some clear advice
larger TMIC or FMIC
and what type, brand, year....

Thats the post I got it off, in the PM he sent he said it was off an early STI, so id guess v1/2 I can take some pics if you like?

Early STi ones are almost identical to WRX ones and produce no great benefits in swapping. The real benefit is the STi rear hose which is smooth as opposed to ribbed on the WRX. What you really want is an ARC, FMIC or start cutting up a later STi non slanted cooler. Bear in mind any non slanted cooler has implications with your scoop and undertray

The sti version has larger ports therefore better flow. Do you think they just painted it silver 53? Not much point swapping a hose that isn't flow/portmatched to the intercooler.

Track use, 300bhp and det no greater than 29 on a fully solid bushed car They are better IMHO The important part being the much wider bars in the core increasing capacity substantially Look at the tests done in Autospeed, the ARC one is identical to the after market version 2 AVO one, pretty much
Also don't forget to ensure the ducting to and through the intercooler is mitigated I have modified my scoop skirt to ensure a flush pressure fit to the core to ensure all the air is forced through the core. Any straight fit coolers fitted will not align with the V2 bonnet scoop arrangement and will be counter productive if you don't make a quality effort at ducting the air to an effective pressure fit.

If you drive a Version 2 WRX you're severely limited by the tight clearance between the throttle and firewall. As we've seen, however, you can achieve excellent heat exchange and airflow improvements by fitting a quality aftermarket intercooler (such as the AVO 'cooler) along with a smoothly contoured feed pipe. If your budget doesn't extend to an aftermarket 'cooler, the only options are to fit a smooth feed pipe (again, like the AVO part) and maybe a water spray system for the core. Oh, and you might also want to enlarge the charge-air inlet in the rear end-tank - STi certainly thought it was worthwhile.

with the 2003 undertray adapted to suit the classic bonnet/mounting holes
and of course,the scoop to suit LOL
This is the bit (pic borrowed from the net) i had to "manipulate" to get the TMIC to sit properly and not hit/rub/vibrate when engine moved etc
As said,there is alot involved to get it to fit,where the dumpvalve goes on the TMIC is welded,but you can get cover plates instead,which is easier/cheaper.
The throttle body has also been shortened,where the outlet meets the TMIC to allow fitment as it would be very very tight against the bulkhead
If thats not put you off,go for it LOL
