Default Why are my brakes so bad ???

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone can help.
I have a Hawk STI and ever since I bought the car the brakes have always been so poor however the car will pass an mot but I'm convinced there not what they should be it's quite dangerous to be honest... The car has only done 10k miles so was thinking maybe something is seized with that in mind I've checked that all pistons are working in the callipers I've Changed the brake fluid and bled the brakes numerous times I've even replaced the discs and pads all round with brand new!!!

Has anyone else experienced this ? Could it be the servo ? I'd be grateful for your help.
Thanks, Mark

Quite honestly you have done everything I'd suggest already so maybe you are expecting to much from them and there is nothing mechanically wrong.
Only thing to suggest is try another sti if that's possible and compare

I appreciate your help but honestly I'm not expecting too much of them I also have a 75bhp citroen berlingo van with brakes no where near as big as the STI and the brakes In my van are 10 times better there is definitely something wrong.

could be glazed or contaminated pads, seized piston, dodgy (perished) pipe connected to brake master cyl.

May be worth calling Alyn at AS Peformance

Are you referring to the amount of pressure you need to press the pedal?
I often drive cheap hire cars and on those you only have to tap the brake pedal to get the brakes to come on. In comparison with the scoob you have to apply much more pressure which has been the same for all three of my scoobies.

Get your car to your nearest Subaru specialist and let them diagnose the problem, brakes are one thing that I don't take chances with, playing the guessing game is something you need to avoid when it comes to your brakes.SJ.

The Impreza's are under servo'd , so they will not feel as sharp as most other cars you drive which tend to be over servo'd , the pads you're using probably don't help , you can make them a lot better be fitting a better pad , this will give you more bite
Cheers Ian

Ian when you say under servoed I take it that was by design to help with brake feel and modulation? Changing the pads on My hawk STi has completely changed my braking performance.

MCR which part of Wales are you in? I'm planning a drive over to Evo triangle next month in my hawk STI after I've fitted new disks and pads all round this week or next from Godspeed, if it's on my way I'll stop by and we can compare brakes.
I compared mine with my mates 07 hawk and his felt a little crisper but that's because he had braided lines and uprated disks, will guess pads too. I'll let you know how I get on with mine on my quest for firmer brakes.

Just to clarify bleed procedure, rear offside, rear near side, front off side, front near side?

they are standard servo for the size of the brakes, in comparison the RRS I used to own had the exact same calipers but would throw you through the windscreen and my hawk would halt you eventually, over the years I've just learned to hit them harder and they work better, freeing off the pads and pistons really help and braided hoses

Hi Ian, is it possible to fit a bigger spec servo, i've read such can be done for example with disability adaption companies on a variety of cars
