Default Help car will idle but won't rev up

I've got a 1993 impreza ra it will idle but won't rev up as soon as you try to it stalls or bogs down anyone any ideas am at my wits end got new fuel pump fpr regulator boost solenoid but still no joy anyone any ideas

Have you checked for any cel codes?

Fault 4 5 fitted new boost solenoid and 2 mm boost pill because tgat was missing

How old is the maf sensor? check that the throttle body is clean and not gummed up. make sure breather pipes are clear

Yeah new map sensor maf sensor is old but when it's idling if you unplug it it stalls I will take the throttle body off later and all pipes are clear I've ran new ones

Have all cel errors now cleared? 45 map sensor not showing now?
Did you do the ecu reset? Also check battery connections,bad earth?

Ok. If the maf sensor is old ,it needs replacing as routine maintenance. The stall test you carried out is not a definitive way to check function . Search through all the info on this site to find a more accurate method. Are all pipes connected for boost control ? Check for split vac hoses , and the large air intake pipe to the turbo. These split under the clip so check carefully . A small inspection mirror is handy for this pro

is the alternator connected and charging the battery? when I disconnected my alternator (I was doing another job on the car) the car would start but would not rev.

Alternator is connected and charging mate I cleared the faults and 4 5 was still pending I will try again now as I've fitted a boost restrictor which was missing I will check earths etc all pipes are connected and have been renewed and samco inlet pipe I will replace the maf and try again cheers

Cool hope you get it sorted mate,have a look at the map sensor wiring and connector block too,just seems strange you are still getting 45 if you have a new map sensor fitted.

I had this exact fault twice in ten years on my classic STI and both times it was the MAF sensor. It’s a common fault and only a genuine one will work. There is no accurate way to test it either other than to substitute it with a known good one.
