Question Power steering upgrade issues - classic wrx

So on my 96 WRX I've done the power steering upgrade courtesy of ( https://www.scoobynet.com/technical-...g-upgrade.html .) I've bled the reservoir and filled as necessary (actually over filled a tad bit and spilled over) but the steering feels really hard to turn and my tires aren't flat so I know that's not an issue with creating more resistance. It almost feels as if there is no power steering when turning on a round-a-bout so what gives?

The connector from my sensor going to the reservoir's connector didn't fit but I got it to connect to the spade pin inside. What is the purpose of that connector?

One last thing...when swapping over the 24mm fittings there was a long center pin in the newer style reservoir and I had to press down on it while installing the 24mm fitting from the old res. What's that for?

Thanks guys!

btw - I never had these issues with the old pump.

BUMP!
Ok so I checked my tires since its gotten a lot colder recently and the air was down to 30psi so I pumped it back up to 45psi all around, so that's one bone head issue cleared lol

I jacked up the front end and went from lock to lock, which seems like I did it a hundred times (or so my shoulders feel like I did) and saw PS fluid pour out of the reservoir and then it stopped doing so. I continued to go from lock to lock to verify and the fluid would rise but barely overflow. It still feels a little bit of a struggle to turn so maybe I need to bleed more? I know I've been so used to driving my lexus that its effortless, but something still seems off with the wrx. I really don't want to put the old pump back on. Anyone??

No one has any ideas? I'm just about ready to go ahead and swap over the old pump to give it a shot figuring I have nothing else to lose.

It should only take lock to lock maybe 10 times max to bleed the system. I don't know about the upgrade side of things as I have a newage anyway but either the wiring or the pump is failing.

Well apparently that 1 wire is supposed to adjust the idle and the idle will rise up slightly as the wheel is turned. I removed the pump and swapped back in the old one after finding a few new o-rings I had laying around and half way done ready to install, but it got too dark for me to see unfortunately. I'll have to continue tomorrow.

Turns out some arsehole sold me a bad pump on ebay. Got a new pump courtesy of a member here and everything is working great with the new style!

They're max rated for 51psi and its purely for economy reasons. Bad enough I have 2 all season and 2 snow tires on the car!
I am getting new tires this weekend though thank god.

Economy!? You bought the wrong car then.
Seriously 45 psi is way too high, bet you car drives like a brick.

haha oh I know I know mate. It's only temp though. And trust me my car rides like a complete POS at the moment. It has Tein S-tech springs on old blown struts I'm sure. S-techs are garbage and they offer the poorest of comforts. Unfortunately they came with my car, but I have new struts and ver5 sti type r springs going on shortly

Reduce you're tyres to 29-32 and it may give you more comfort

Mine rides perfectly fine on Tein S-Techs, with V5/6 Sti dampers.

Apologies I hadn't seen this earlier, as it was my guide you were using. My first suggestion would have been the pump you had been supplied with.
