Default Best twin scroll turbo.

Can someone advise on the best turbo for fast road use for my 05 JDM Sti. I don,t track the car and currently run a VF49 which replaced my damaged VF37. I know lots of you have been there before, so any advice much appreciated. Thanks, Steve.

As above the SC42 is a good match for the standard 2 litre engine. Nice and spooly and makes good power through the rev range.

out of interest if power is not a massive requirement then why not consider another healthy VF37? its a fantastic turbo for the road and probably a quarter of the price of an SC42, that is of course unless you want/need the extra bhp, you dont need to mess about with other upgrades then either.

Can the VF37 reach 400hp as some websites say they do yet many JDM owners reach figures of only 350/360hp with bolt-ons...unless they didn't get the car mapped to its full potential?

Subaru Collector 555.

no, I dont believe it can reach 400, 370 or some some people have had from memory?

But a fast road car does not need to be 400. can get that with just a decent spooling VF37, if you wanted more then why not add a bit of meth and get around the 400 mark.

Thanks for your advice. The VF49 was road dynoed, 4 runs, and gave between 375-402 bhp @1.55 bar. I don,t know how accurate this is, but from what I,ve read it may be a bit optimistic.I believe the VF49 was used on MY08> JDM STI,s. The car is great to drive with very little lag. I just want that bit more. Can,t be bothered using meth.

Litchfields LM450, awesome bit of kit.

I run one at 453hp and it still spools as quick as the stock 37 with a lot more wallop.

Steve thats the holy grail you are looking for if you find it let everyone know you have to make compromises when it comes to picking turbo's nothing will ever be perfect as you have already stated you want a bit more you might get it higher up the rev range but end up with lag at the lower range cos pound to a penny when you find your next turbo of choice after a few months you will want a bit more its a vicious circle I went from a VF 36 to a litchfield VF 36 hybrid after I found the car was running out of midrange on track hence going for the hybrid version which did the job the new turbo of choice for me on the new car is a billet twinscroll SC42 but running the billet SC46 front wheel 42 rear wheel which came off Fuds old spec-c , I have had it clocked and rotated to keep pipework short once the engine loom is finished and its been mapped I will find out if I have found the holy grail for my needs if not it will be back to the drawing board again !!!!!

Yes it is achievable pal, that's what Bob Rawle has on his 2.5 hawk is a twinscroll setup on an LM500, albeit his engine has been reworked but makes for an impressive car by all accounts with thunderous torque and spool.
