Turbo failure symptoms?

Turbo failure symptoms?
I started the car this morning and had oily smoke coming out of the exhaust, it didnt get worse as the car was revved and cleared after idling for a while. I havent driven it yet. Theres some oily residue around the tail pipe. Ive also noticed the same residue in the FMIC pipes. I assume the TD05 has called it a day?
The million dollar question is... If I drive it off boost am I liable to cause damage to the engine? I was planning to take it to the Prodrive event this weekend.
The next question is where to get a replacement top entry TD05?
Ive had a look on Andy Forrests site and they seem very well priced but no contact details anyone have a number or email address?
Cheers

You will most likely be ok if you don't drive the car too hard.
There are also a few options available to you that you could have not known anything about:
a) You can get your old turbo rebuilt yourself (rebuilt kits are available everywhere), but it will need balancing with specialist equipment afterwards, or you can just give it to a professional straight away. Rebuilt turbo's do not last as long as a new turbo, but its much cheaper.
b) You can also get a CHRA (central assembly) for your turbo, but check your housings for cracks beforehand.
Replacing CHRA is easy to do at home, just unscrew a few bolts and you're done, although the exhaust housing does stick sometime and it might require a blowtorch and some hammering to get it off.
If your housings arent cracked, getting a new CHRA is about as effective as getting a new turbo, slightly more expensive than a rebuild, but lasts much longer.

Drive it 1st and see what its like?
A blocked breather from a catch can would cause your car to smoke (if running one) so don't jump to conclusions about turbo being fubarred just off a bit of smoke get it checked out
But if your turbo is shot ive got a JMG TD05 20G practically brand new (non billet)

Did you get to the bottom of this?
Mine has occasionally blown a little white smoke on startup but today I had a huge cloud that smelled of petrol.
The car seems to be running fine and pulls hard but I'm thinking this is the start of something expensive.

It hasn't done it since, like you I'm taking it as a warning sign. It was driven harder than its ever been driven before when it started smoking. Mine was definitely oil residue.
I gave it some welly with someone following over the weekend and it didn't smoke.

Thanks Gents.
Having taken some good advice, I believe my issue is crank case pressure and it was oil being blown out of the standard breather system. To support this,it hasnt happened since while being driven (sensibly) on the road. Three port catch tank to be ordered. I was wrong about it running 2 bar, its more like 1.5
