Default Rocker Gasket price to replace

can someone tell me the sort of price I should expect to pay to have rocker cover gaskets replaced on both sides, and also do the spark plugs while they're out.

Had a quote for £420 all in, but want to know if that's about right?

cheers

Ouch! When you look at parts a kit per side is about £40. If you fit new bolts then thats maybe another £20. The sealant is about £20. The plugs? Maybe £40?

So £180 there. It is a bit of a crappy/messy job but its easy to do if you have a bit of skill and tools.

ah ok many thanks. Unfortunately I am not very mechanically minded, and would most likely end up doing something wrong (although I am able to change the oil + filter lol). Will look at some DIY threads and maybe give it a shot. £420 seemed a bit excessive to me.

yer that's what I thought. When I had my lowering springs fitted by the same person (I supplied the springs) I got charged almost £600.. that was fitting whiteline top mounts tho too, but I did think that was pricey..

Bloody hell. Yeah sack that place that's a rip. I would have done it for £200! The top mounts come off at the same time as you do the springs anyway. Its five bolts per strut and then take the strut apart, add new spring and reverse. Easy job especially for a proper mechanic with decent tools.

How ******* much!!

I swapped my suspension myself, but, didn't like the ride height and couldn't be bothered to refit my old springs again.

Revolution quoted me £210 to swap the springs, and that included allignment.

My mate, who's also my MOT tester and did run a 600bhp Impreza, swapped my springs for 50 quid.

yer I know its mental. Originally I was quoted £700 to fit lowering springs, Oil Pressure + Temp Guages, CDF pulleys and a new drop link.

But when I was told it was ready only the lowering springs and top mounts had been fitted, and then I had to pay almost £600 for just this. He said that it wasn't worth doing the pulleys, gauges and spark plugs as the rocker gaskets need changing first as they are leaking, and I would be paying the labour twice if he had done these?

Im confused and tbh sounds like I was taken for a ride, but I really am none the wiser, I wish I knew a little more about mechanics. Annoys me because £600 to me is a lot of money

The plugs and gaskets at the same time makes sense. But the pulleys are at the front of the engine not the side so makes no sense.

Firstly get yourself a new mechanic. This bloke is shocking and if he is willing to charge that much I wouldn't be surprised if his work isn't that great either.
