Default Dump valves open loop of closed?

I didn't want to high jack someone rises thread bug I have not long bought a hawk PPP 2007 and it has an open loop dump valve. Is this a good thing or would a closed loop be better? What are the differences between them and what are the pro and cons for each.
Thanks in advance!!

ive had a classic bug legacy and ive always fitted vta valves as i personally like the wooosh and never had a problem, recently bought a blobeye wrx with ppp it had a standard one on i changed it to a vta and the power loss i got was considerable so ive now opted to the standard one,but i think its personal preferance really......

Hi stonejedi
I've read the article but it only give the basics I was look for more indepth thoughts about the subject I know the principles and effects but that was on older cars ie circa1990's but not up date ones like the hawk.
I was mostly wondering if it was a good or bad thing on a subaru.
But there is the fact I do and have always liked the noise!!!!

Not sure why anyone likes the sound of air being dumped, maybe its because i drive a lorry all day and sick of the noise lol seriously though better keeping the original one as vta causes running issues.

Yeah I understand what your saying mate, but the principle remains the same it's physicsbut as above mafs don't like VTA dumpvalves standard one yes,as it was part of the original setup design, when you start playing with aftermarket dumpvalves it's best to stick to Subarus same parameters closed loop design,if you are going to run a mafless setup a VTA style or any other dumpvalve does not start upsetting the cars fuelling, running etc...as much.SJ.

As I already bought the car with a noisy dump valve I must be right in thinking it's already a vta but I haven't noticed that there's funny driving characteristics. But I may not have noticed due to the scored bore and faulty secondary injection system on it. That's why it back having a rebuilt at the moment. Or could the valve have played a part in that?

The valve causes rich running on gear changes etc, giving you pops and bangs and generally not been healthy for the engine. It might have contributed but I wouldnt have thought it was the sole cause.
