Scoob broke down!

Scoob broke down!
bladdy typical, we finished work early today, so started the car and let it warm up so I could have a little play with the snow, pulled out of the industrial estate and just got round the corner then the car started to cough, splutter, pop and bang like a machine gun and died.
Totally refused to start, it tried to go but it was just chucking fuel straight down the exhaust so more pops and bangs!!
Half hour later, still no luck and thought I'd have one last look before resorting to calling the AA.
On closer inspection, I found some water on the cambelt cover near the battery. Then I found that someone has broken the camshaft sensor plug some time in the past and bodged it by putting 2 peices or 3mm silicone tubing over the terminals and connecting it back on. I removed the tubing and found the socket to be filled up with water, got some paper towel, dried it off - put the terminals back on and the car started straight away.
Also found that the bonnet vent drain hole is pretty much directly above the sensor!
Car has been playing up a few times over the last couple of weeks and it seems this is the problem so have done a slightly better bodge job by using some blue-tac to water proof the sensor till I can get hold of a new plug

blue tac, almost as handy as insulating tape
It's been running like a pig recently so thats one job half sorted, so am relieved it's an easy fix, though god knows where I can get a new plug.
Next problem is it's missfiring at 5000RPM though if I remember correctly it's got iridium plugs in there which don't last long, well - the HKS iridiums I put in my first scoob only lasted 6 months.
Not to mention the starter motor refuses to spin occasionally, so will have to strip it down and service it soon

Oops, just got a PM and have been told ages ago about the camshaft plug, just got so much going on at the mo, I've obviously forgotten. To top it off, the blue silicone hosing was mine and I cut it down to size
I'm not having a dig at anyone with this thread, and apologise if offence has been taken.
Am planning to get the car remapped in Feb and it's all going wrong, never mind, game on

If you asked me that a couple of years ago, then the answer would be - LOTS!!
To be honest mate, I'm not after big power - just want the car running nicely with good useable power with a few obligatory pops and bangs
Keep meaning to ask JJ about the engine rebuild, he said he's got a magazine article on it, would be handy for Dynamix to look at to get the best from the car
