Smile Time for some new rubber & to straighten myself up a bit.

When my nearside tyre got down to near the wear indicator I started trawling the net & ringing around for some 225 40 18 T1-R prices.

I tried all the usual favorites but ended up getting four delivered next day from Camskill for £331.80 (less than £83 each).

Getting them fitted for a reasonable price by a non-butcher of alloy wheels was the next quest. A bit like the tyres the price varied from the sublime to the ridiculous & when you added in the 4 wheel alignment it got even sillier.

One place in Bishops Stortford that have a good reputation wanted £20 per wheel & up to £125 for worst case scenario on the tracking.

Stu, thank you mate, put me on to Supertyres, West Station Yard, Spital Rd, Maldon, CM9 6TW.

They only wanted £10 per wheel to remove wheel, change tyre & valve, balance, refit to car & dispose of old tyre. The alignment came to £65 & was a full check on their Hunter DSP600 machine followed by 1 rear toe & 1 front camber getting a tweak. You get a before & after print out to keep as well so you can see your settings at a glance. Handy at your next alignment session if you want to make any changes.

Steve at Leigh Tyres did try his best to match but the closest he could get was £98 each fitted against the £93 I paid. So all in all a big up to Camskill & Supertyres at Maldon.

I fitted just the fronts for now as the rears are still ok but kept the front OS tyre as it still has 4mm-5mm average tread left on it so would make an ideal spare for someone that doesn't want the expense of a brand new one sat in the boot gathering dust. I already have a decent spare so this one is up for grabs for a small fee.

Mark,

I can only say that your experience of SuperTyres is the polar opposite of mine. Absolute shambles in my opinion and I would never EVER go back.

I'm still steaming from the experience and finding it hard not to swear about them.

Nope, went along this morning. Arrived before they opened at 8am and all they had to do was fit my tyres. 2 HOURS later I drive away after having been delayed for no good reason, grunted at and generally given the impression I was an inconvenience to them.

Fair enough they didn't supply the the tyres so there wasn't much profit for them but nontheless it was still unprofessional. Who knows I may have gone to them directly next time? They'll never know now.

All of my future business will now be going elsewhere.

Andy did that recently and for full wheel alignment on the MX5 Elites charged the princely sum of £145 cash after SIDC discount

Personally I cannot see any justification when you compare to Super Tyres pricing. The Forry will needs some adjustment and guess what I won't be going back to Elites

Staff come and go maybe Chris was unlucky with who changed his wheels. Price wise sounds like a bargain Mark

Wink

I can concur that Elites pricing is cosmic
Steve @ Leigh Tyres is as competitive as you will find but all the Tyre boys are fighting just to stay afloat as things are so tight at the moment.

Blinding deal though Mark

its a funny area geometry and again, not without its true professions.

i have had some great handling work done at both Xtreme and Mocom, i wonder how many people who take there car to have the geometry done, gets asked what exactly they want to get out of the car, or just "yeah we done you a prodrive setting blah blah blah"

i genuinely believe there is a profession based around geometry, not JUST the ability to press a few buttons and turn a few spanners.

not having a dig at any companies, just thinking aloud btw !!

Supertyres wanted nigh on £200 each for Toyo's

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's for £114-50 each from Camskill.

I did give them the opportunity to match but they just weren't interested.

Interesting this ..

I'm a big fan of Supertyre's @ Maldon ( Read was !! ) They have looked after all my tyres on all of the cars / vans , but i had a visit a while ago for a punctutre repair & I also fealt the srevice was dire & the staff were rude .

Im 99.9% certain that they have been brought out ..? ( Cambridge tyre services ..? ) i never seem to see the two brothers in there anymore , these guys were great always greeted you as drove onto the forecourt & the service you were provided with was second to none , IMHO it's far far from that now

Interesting mixed bag of results here. I did have a small wait for the alignment but no more than I would expect having turned up "on spec" without booking it in.

I had 2 different guys speak to me about the settings I wanted. They explained the wear I had on the front n/s tyre, talked about tyre pressures on the new boots & told me what torque the wheel nuts were set at.

Interestingly they have a picture of one of Xtremes cars on their "Hall of Fame" wall & I was told Andy, who did my alignment at Xtreme used to work for them.

Did try them but nowhere near matching the price on tyres or alignment.

Oh yes. If only I had seen this before I ordered my T1-Rs. I am sure there would be something in my size. Not much tread on her though so not very grippy in the wet, maybe a touch too much tyre dressing as well.

Ark really should put a pass word on his "recreational folder".

I contacted Supertyres regarding getting the geometry set up on the RS , the guy told me that they never had the settings required but would contact the manufacturer & get them for me , took my mobile number & would contact me with regards to getting it booked in ..

Well needles to say 2 weeks later & i'm still waiting for the call !!

Mark you mention Andy @ Xtreme , Andy knew his stuff & HOW to use the machine @ Xtreme imho , set my car up 3-4 times to get it feeling just how i wanted it

It certainly seems like things have been let slip & to not even get back to you does not make much business sense. Andy also did a great job on mine & it felt just right afterwards. Since then my front n/s had gone out of alignment causing the wear I was getting, probably a pot hole or something.
