A return to Blyton . . . . .
. . . . . in more ways than one.
When the MLR came up with the venue of Blyton for the MLR500 I thought "I know that name from somewhere."
Way back in 1999 I got my first Scooby, a red bog standard classic, to play with while waiting for a P1 I had on order. I had only had "family" cars up until then & started looking for a company that were using the Impreza for driver training on tarmac as I didn't want to jump straight in the P1 & stick it in a hedge.
Rallydrive at Blyton were one of the few Rally schools running an Impreza for tarmac tuition & were phasing it in to replace their Escort & Sierra Cosworths. They had a 318 for the tarmac sighting/practice laps & 6 Golf GTis for the mixed tarmac & gravel stages.
Instructors included Howard Paterson (Rally driver) & Simon Harrison (BTCC driver).
My school report could have been better. Must try (brake) harder.
Both my Stage 1 times were in the 318. Stage 2 was in the Scooby.
What's that funny crop circle in the bottom right corner?
Since my visit there in 2000 some old photos made me realise Blyton was also one of the bomber airfields that my father used in 1943 just before he joined 101 Squadron at Ludford.
My father used to carry this picture with him everywhere.
On the reverse are the names of his crew, the airfield & the date.
This place really does have a variety of different memories for me & my family & is quite special. The MLR500 will be another chapter in the story of my association with this place.

Quite a memorable place for you then Mark. I`m off to check out the rally school there today must be a website for it.
Maybe we could add 2 more memories the MLR and a top up on the rally driving skills next year maybe.

I don't know if Howard will get back in a car with me again. He hit the kill switch twice in the 318. Once after a big 360 & again when some cones for no apparent reason suddenly started coming towards us.
The new Skid pan course looks fun.
