Question Engine promblem any Ideas?

Just had to nurse my scoob (MY 99Turbo 2000) back down the A12 to home.
I was accelerating, not too hard, and when the engine got to 4000RPM i felt a loss of power. I changed into 5th and the car was fine. However when the engine reaches 3000 RPM it starts juddering horribly and looses power. The engine runs fine below 3000RPM.
The check engine light came on when i turned the engine off and re-started it, however the idle is all over the place.
Does anyone have any ideas what the cause might be

TIA

Sounds like a turbo hose has come off

I would agree with Cornelius If you have no loud knocks or bangs and it is driving fine below the revs that the turbo works then you probably have a boost leak, at worst a turbo problem but start with checking the simple stuff like hoses. If hoses are ok perhaps get a diagnostic check done as a sensor could have failed.

Wilf had exactly the same thing happen on his car last year, low revs it drove fine until you gave it some beans then it would cough, splutter and die.

Found the problem to be a hose clamp on the bottom of the intercooler had snapped

3k+ =turbo or hoses etc.

Would have thought intercooler would affect it at lower revs

Not necessarily, if the hose clip comes off but the hose stays attached, it stays sealed as at low revs, there's isn't must boost generated, but when the car is floored, the hose would just vent the pressure straight to atmosphere

Checked the hoses and they all seem to be ok. I've just spoken to Knowlsey and he's going to have a look at it tomorrow for me.
