Cycle helmet's are they really any good
My bellend of a son whilst out cycling yesterday crashed into a lampost head first(dont ask) 3 stitches in his forehead he was not wearing his skid lid,has confessed he put's it on when he leaves then takes it off when out of siteJust looking at said skid lid I was wondering would it really have given him that much protection he rides quite fast and compared to a motorbike helmet I just wonder if they really are any good.
He has had the mother of all lectures and I think it shook him up he was in quite a state when I got to him I'm hoping lesson learned.

bike helmets may look quite flimsey, but they do do a job and they do it well. I wouldn't dream of going out on my bike without 1 of my helemets on.
Full face for bit of the rough stuff and normal bike helmet for the road.

YES YES YES - they do add protection, okay not for everyone in every situation, but they can help prevent more serious injuries.
My sister's boyfriend went under the back of a lorry, and had it not been for the cycle helmet he would have been dead - as it was he was in a coma for 8 days - but he lived!! And the paramedics said the helmet saved him!
It pi$$es me off when you see kids out cycling with their parents - kids with helmets on but parents without - why do adults think they are any safer? Lead by example.
I personally think all cyclists should wear helmets by law!
We also wear helmets when kayaking - far better to be safe than sorry!
On a lighter note - I do hope your son is okay (I think you'll find most kids remove their cycle helmet as soon as they are out of sight).
Can't tell he's your son - lampost head first.........................!
right, i'll get of my soapbox now - but you did ask!!

one way of looking it is:
you hear in the news all the time where people have got into fights, 1 person has been knocked off his/her feet, and unfortunately banged their head on the pavement, which sadly has ended in that persons death.
if this can happen just by falling, just think how much damage could be caused when riding a bike at say 15mph and you come off!!!
sorry it's a no brainer for me.

Mrs B4 you will be surprised how tough they are, put an egg in some foam and drop it, much the same with a head with a helmet on.

Yep, I was wearing one when I came off at high speed.
Fractured a couple of ribs and broke the crash helmet in 3 places but the doctor said if probably saved my life or at least stopped severe head trauma/brain damage
I never ride without one!
