Sourcing alternator belt in essex
Evening all,
The alternator/power steering belt has given up the ghost on my car and i need to find a place in Essex that sells them over the counter. I tried calling Wilson's in Chadwell Heath but no one has answered all day Thank you in advance for all advice.
Cheers

So long as they are the same or close to the same length you should be fine as the adjuster will allow for a bit of play either way. If the old belt isn't in too many pieces can you lay the new one over it to compare?
I know when I fitted my light weight pulleys the new belts had a different code but that was just due to the different manufacturer.
Have you got it fitted yet? If you want to do it yourself it's not that hard to do. I have some pictures from my pulley fitting that show you what to do. I'll put them up if it's any help.

Here you go. I am assuming you are changing both belts.
Remove the left hand Alternator belt first.
Loosen the 12mm bolt on the top right corner of the alternator.
Loosen the 12mm bolt on the bottom left corner of the alternator so it's free to slide up & down the slot when the adjuster is turned.
Turn the adjuster anti clockwise to slacken the old belt just enough to remove it & replace with the new one.
Remove the right hand Air-con belt next.
Loosen the tensioner wheel nut first so it's free to slide up & down the slot when the adjuster is turned.
Then turn the adjuster anti clockwise to slacken the belt just enough to remove the old belt & replace with the new one.
Put both new belts on and check they are seated correctly on all the pulleys & sit squarely in the pulley grooves.
Turn the Air-con belt adjuster clock wise until the slack is taken up & there is about 10-12mm or 1/2" deflection using moderate thumb pressure at the centre of the longest of the 3 runs of the belt.
Tighten the tensioner wheel nut and recheck the deflection.
Turn the Alternator belt adjuster clock wise until the slack is taken up & there is the same deflection as above in the longest run of the belt.
Tighten the two 12mm bolts that hold the alternator and recheck the deflection.
Start the engine and check for squeals etc & that belts are running true on the pulleys. Keep fingers out the way.
