Ian,

this prob won't help unless you can identify the vehicle / driver.
But due a a recent 'incident' I was told by a local (Rayleigh) traffic cop, that if you cause another vehicle to brake when joining a road, you have commited an offence.
I had a non accident with a bus! long story, but the bus emergency stopped and a window fell out, and apperently I could be proscecuted, although prob unlikely.

Default Police Help?

Well I've heard from the Police re. my accident and they say that I have no chance of locating the reg. of the vehicle that I had to avoid (resulting in my RTA.....

Silver unmarked 4x4 sized vehicle with blue lights on with at least 4 police style uniformed people inside.

Entered Army and Navy roundabout from Princes Road on the wrong side of the road paused as I had the swerve to avoid it then carried on towards Parkway....

Any ideas?

bound to say that as they won't want to drop one of their own in it. also to be fair if they were on a shout then they have to do what they have to do. if unmarked they may be from another county. i know that when essex police do their high speed pursuit driver training they go out of county and in unmarked cars. so you probably won;t be able to trace it. not go any part of the reg number. can't be that many unmarked silver 4x4 in the police service country wide. they'll have black box in them so will tell them exactly where the car was, what speed etc.

employ a solicitor to find out. police have to release info in a legal claim don't they?

Yes, it's the X5....will get the reg for you next time i see it!

Not that i hate the "filth" (as described in top gear mag!) but if they were driving on WRONG side of road and made you swerve to miss them, aint that dangerous driving???

Has been said they have to do what is best at the time, i do not count going on wrong side of road and making others take avasive action to avoid them good driving!

Obviously you know the date and time? when the reg turns up, ask chelmsford (control) to get the details, if not, go to papers!

I personally think all the services do the best they can and have no issue with them going on the wrong side of the road....

I personally always give way ASAP, it's was just bad luck that it resulted in me hitting someone....

Ultimately though if the police car wasn't there, the accident would not have happened.....

Tissy, I spoke to some Civi. on the phone who spoke to a Duty Sgt. in Traffic whos said I had 2 hopes

I'm not looking to blame anyone, I just wanted ALL the facts recorded before people start saying... "oh you hit a car from behind, it must be your fault"

unfortunately i think that it'll be looked upon as you should have let them avoid / hit your car for it not to be your fault as your exit route was blocked. i know you was only trying to do what was best for them and you but it doesn;t often get looked at that way.

Bibo,

To be fair it could have been anybody from Essex, Met, Kent or a even a specialist Unit. Likewise it may have been part of the fire or ambulance services.

I don't think that Essex are being intentially evasive, but more they genuinely don't know.

As per my previous post, BMW X5 in silver, seen it loads of times up and down A130, also seen it round Benfleet (Tarpots corner) with their blues going.

Sounds very much like a Essex patrol car to me.
