Well it's happened... what can I do 
Brought it used so can't send it nack to Microsoft...

I brought mine used and they took it back no problem, the only difficulty is that you need to phone them up and wait while they transfer the warranty to you over the phone. If they accomplish this simple task in less than 45 mins I'd be surprised.
If you need a box then I've got the ESC spare one at the moment

mine is fubar'd as well
still, im on newgroups at the mo helping myself to music, so not that bothered. it can stay in a pile of plastic bits for the time being!!!

Take the xbox to work and phone from there. Learn the language of Mumbai, you'll have enough time during the call to become fluent. Tell them you've disconnected all cables and plugged them back in again and now it needs returning to base
to get fixed. they'll put you on hold for ages while they check the warranty and then tell you it's expired but as Microsoft are so wonderful they have extended it for you blah blah..... Don#t do anything to take them away from their script or you can add another 40 minutes to the call
Eventually they'll tell you that a courier will come to collect it from you and you have to call the courier to arrange the collection... 2 weeks later and its returned good as new with a warranty on the repair.
