As above.
It's a 20L petrol on a 97 p reg.
I Know it's not a Scooby but I've tried everywhere. Even 118118
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I've been to two and both say they think its the gearbox.
I think it's the clutch, but I'm not an expert.
Brought the car on Sunday.
Drove 130 miles home, used it for work Tuesday 76 miles.
Work on Wednesday heard a sort of grinding noise, but all gears changing lovely.
Thursday noise getting worse and crunching when changing down into 4th & 3rd. Friday crunching changing up into 3rd & 4th unless done very very slowly.
All the time it's fine in 5th.
Took it into a gearbox specialist who said it a very strange noise and could be the drive shaft, clutch or gearbox. (I could have told him that)
Then quoted me the worst case scenario rebuild £550 + parts + clutch + vat
£400 labour for me to supply a gearbox and him to fit it.
Saturday took it to a mates mates garage who said "strange noise" and he thinks it's the gearbox because it's not making the noise in 5th.
£200 to fit a box and he rang Neverdon salvage who have boxes for 405's & 406'es but don't know if they are the same.
Hence my ?
The bit that's got me is how quick its happened. Surely if it was the gearbox it would go over time. Not a matter of days.

I would personally have the mechanic rip the box out and inspect the clutch before forking out on a box, shouldnt effect the labour cost as the box has to come out regardless, and might be the clutch smashed.
