it's time for a change mate. this car is so much better put together and has so much more for the money. 300bhp for under 25k as well as all the throttle toys and traction control ... the interior is a much nicer place to be too. No point trying to take on mitsi and audi because subaru just can't ... so carving a new niche is def the right way for the company to go.

classic. the original and the best imo.
none of this 2008 mazda look alike. although without wanting to make the little blue fellas head swell, it does look better in the flesh than in the pictures.
although the rear lights still look absolutely awful and that they came from halfrauds, after being purchased with a gift voucher from your aunt at christmas.

Did have classic & now got 07 Hawkeye.
Hawkeye going to be 400/400 at least on 21st March so will get some oomph back. Agree that the lights are not right looking on the Hawkeye but then the build is a bit better than the classic in my opinion.
I did like the new STI as seen in the flesh at the ESC Cruise on Sat evening.
Out the box its a great package & am sure something will be available to mod even further in the near future.
Come on Hawks were lagging a bit

clarkson quotes mean **** my friend ... admittedly you can't miss the LED rear lights but isn't that the point of lights in the first place??? I do agree that they could have maybe paid a bit more attention to the design of the rear lights ... a light smoke is being considered by the gangsta.

the natural evolution of the brand ensures that the build qualities of the hawks and now hatches will always surpass the classics. the people that prefer classics generally prefer the look not the drive, because you'd be a madman to say that the drive of a classic is better than the drive of a brand new car!!!

Some strange voting
Mrs B4 voting for a classic?
ABW voting for Hawkeye?

lol. gotta love clarkson.
yes lights are meant to be seen, but they just look wrong. would look better smoked . personally i'd think about spliting the units and making the chrome a matt finish. 3000 grit wet and dry should do it.

Am I mad? Hello again, everyone!

It depends what you mean by 'better', but the classic is definitely more raw and, in my opinion, more fun.
You feel more connected to it, you can feel more of what the car is doing.
The new one's are 'better' if you like a more refined way to cover ground at a stupid rate of knots.

Haven't had a go in a 'new' one yet, but I test drove a blob and a hawkeye STi when they were brand new, then took my classic down the same road afterwards.

Where's the 'I am a smug git and own a classic and a New Age' option.
Hawkeye rocks and tis stupid fast, but the classics handle better out of the box and are pretty rapid too. I have turned more heads in 2 hours with the new classic than I have in a year of hawkeye ownership !

Not driven either on track mate which is a different thing altogther I imagine. My hawkeye was very bouncy as standard (now running prodrive springs), and with the higher seating position didn't feel as nice as the flat/low/standard classic STi I currently have sitting outside next to my shiney Spec D

I was thinking the very same
Sorry but have to disagree here, a classic doesn't have a patch on a MY05> STi, if you think differently you're not getting the best from your Spec D
