It just goes to show . . . . .
. . . . . it doesn't hurt to ask.
I had my renewal for breakdown cover come through today & the AA wanted £96 for "Roadside & Relay" for me in any vehicle (handy for Simon)
Not being one to grab the first thing that's offered I did a quick search & found that new members joining the AA were being offered exactly the same cover for £69.75. So much for loyalty.
Breakdown Options - The AA
I checked with the RAC & they were doing a comparable cover (Solution 1) for new members for £69.
UK Breakdown Cover, Roadside Assistance
So not being afraid to haggle I rang the AA renewals section & said that I will not be renewing with them unless they can do better.
I was transferred to their Retainer section & I pointed out the situation I was faced with. A few keyboard strokes could be heard down the phone & then I am told :
"We would really like to keep you as a member so we are willing to match the RAC's £69 for another year with us.You will also benefit in that our price will be being increased on the web site in March."
Result. 5 minutes research & a phone call saved me £27.
If in doubt haggle it out.

Good result Mark , these compaines are always pulling these type of strokes , they figure a large percentage of people just renew without even thinking about it , but this can kick them in the *** when their customers realise they are taking the pee . They do it on insurance every year too .
