Default Official ESC RC Helicopter Thread

Okay guys heres our very own thread to talk everything from swashplates to boomstrikes, mixes and gyros.

Some may know ive gone the whole hog and bought a Freya 90 X-Spec 3D heli.

Whist practicing to fly this im using my little inddor blade CX2 and Phoenix RC flight sim.

Heres a Screenshot of me flying a Synergy N9 Team in Phoenix

This screenshot really does the sim no justice at all, it really is incredibly accurate and silky smooth running

oh my god, how real does that look!!!!

i might sell my Raptor as i don't really have time to use it now, what with the nitro cars and the kite flying!!!!!!

hopefully someone can get good use out of it and fly it properly, unlike me

although, once i clap eyes on her again, i might have to take her out for another blat and get the cobwebs out the Irvine .39 !!!!

its just so much stuff to carry about!!!!!!

dazza (kites and cars)

That screenshot looks so real!

Been flying my blade quite a bit recently.

Getting quite good with it now......crashes are getting quite rare now even flying it indoors.

Managing to land it on small table tops, top of the TV, kitchen worktops, fly through doors.

Would love to have a go in a sports hall or something similar.

i am flying the cz2 confidently around the house and outside

i can fly it front on now......

Paul gave me his hummingbird v3, which i'm going to fly at the weekend, when i get a decent handset and receiver.

Im then looking at a min 30 nitro, not a 90 as thats to much money at the moment.

Sounds good,

Try and get all your basics absolutely nailed with the CX2 first.. sounds like youre doing well. Although be prepared that the cyclic response on a single rotor heli is massively different to that of the CX2.

TBH ive now decided that i'll use the CX2 just to perfect my orientation as opposed to my flying skils as the 2 helis act so differently.

A 30 will be pretty cool, but a bigger heli will hold its own in the air much greater. Id just go for the best you can afford and take it very VERY slowly.

Im not even going to think about flying the X-Spec for a good while yet until im 150% nailed on my manoeuvres.

I know the sim is no replacement for the real thing however if im almost perfect on that then i have the best possible chance with the real thing.

Lets face it.. a 90 size heli wont hurt someone.. it will kill them.

Nice to have someone else wanting to do this too

I have not had much luck with R/C trucks so i thought i could at least fly something instead of kneeling down make it look like i'm praying constantly

Can't do with sore knees at my age lol.

I am really glad your into the helli's mate.....its just another world when you start to lkearn to fly them....Whats next I say

Maybes go onto small nitro planes, then after a few years go for the Jets .

I have taken your advice about the bigger the helli, the more stable it would be in the air So a 30 is out of the window.

May go for a 50 i'm sure i saw that size

give it a couple of months mate and we may be buzzing the ESC R/C chaps around the field at burnham power station

Sounds cool mate, yeah a 50 is available no problem.

Another thing is trying to go for a known brand heli such as maybe a Thundertiger, Align or Hirobo. The inevitable will happen and you will need spares so its nice to know that these spares are readily available.

A bigger heli will cope with wind better too.

Also if you plan on upgrading helis in the future, try and by stuff like starters and radio, gyros etc that you wont need to replace come the time when you make the jump.

For example you'll need to buy a dynatron starter for a 90 heli and nothing else will happily start it. Also buy the best wand you can as these also wear out quickly.

IMO id buy the radio and servos separately as the ones that come with the radio arnt really up to the job of the cyclic controls on the swash.

These are all things ive picked up on recently that will try and stop you from spending your money twice.

Did you notice that Bradwell even has its own "H"!!!

Our very own pad

I've got a Freya Eagle 60 - OS 71 engine, carbon blades, but stock apart from that. had a Caliber 30 before that & i use a hoverfly to practice on indoors & realflight G2, although that screen shoot looks amazing. not flown much this year as I'm learning to fly real planes

Well the bird has landed...

Just bought the X-Spec home...

Spent the evening with Dan setting things up.. only a few more bits to do. Its having to stay downstairs on the dining room table at the moment as its just too big to put anywhere else.

Unfortunately i have no cam at the moment but will get pics up soon.

Im also fixing a friends T-Maxx at the moment and put them side by side.

Poor little monster truck
