Yes and no.

On a WRX there is a cat in the uppipe so it will make a big difference. To our STis mate it will make a difference but not as noticeable as a WRX.

Basically you need to keep the pipe small enough to keep gass speed up and provide better spool and response.. a larger pipe will ultimately flow more by volume for bigger power but will slighttly reduce response and increase spool time.

Hope that helps.

Spot on Frayz

Zak at Mocom recommended a smaller internal diameter uppipe for MY03 WRX which made a huge difference ! Had it made to order to Zaks spec by Ian at Hayward and Scott.

Hi feller how's your horn?

When you look inside the OE up pipe & see the core of the cat you wonder how it flows any air at all. I'll try & get a pic of the inside of my old one if I can dig it out the back of the garage.

And this is my up pipe courtesy of H&S ~ slim & trim like me.

Looks a tad bent to me.

Touch of the pole vaults methinks.

To much haste ~ not enough speed.

Would swapping the standard pipe for a de-cat version affect emissions come MOT time? I've got the PPP exhaust with sports cat but standard wrx up-pipe still.

Neanderthal, I believe it would but MOT should be fine with just the Sports Cat DP. Same set up as me and I expect it to be fine. You would need a Zak tweak though.
