Default Top mount intercooler deflectors

The problem with running top mounts is that the air coming in from the scoop only actually reaches the back half of the intercooler (air will always travel the easiest route), leaving the front section relatively untouched by fresh air.

I've already made a couple for John1UK and KevD, and both are happy with the results from such a simple mod.

I'm making a batch up (12), if anyone is interested, let me know(£10 unpainted)) At the moment, these are for classics and facelifts, but not sure if they will fit newage. If anyone with a new age would like to try it to see if it fits then you can have one FOC as a thank you.

At the moment, these are made out of 0.8mm Galvanised steel which can easily be painted with hammerite.

As I haven't made any yet, there's no pics, but should have the first made tomorrow.

I would recommend doing tilting the i/c also using a simple kit that can be made from stuff bought at the local DIY store, the classics dont have this whereas Subaru did this as standard on the bugeyes onwards

Oh yes, I remember you saying that about your RB5, will have a scout to see if there's anything suitable to make spacers up with

Paul,

You can try one on my car to check out the new age car.

What can I expect from this mod?

Nice one mate!!

It won't give you a significant power increase, just makes the intercooler run more effeciently as more air will be directed to the front of the IC instead of just the back.

I know one classics, these bolt straight on using existing fixings, so no drilling required, though if I remember correctly, you got to swap the plastic clips for M5 nuts and bolts because the clips aren't long enough.

Bugs in the front half of the IC.

Seriously though. I have an early Betts model on the Stealth Wagon & before fitting it you would just see dirt & bugs collecting mainly towards the rear half of the IC. With the deflector fitted it spreads the air flow & with it the bugs more evenly over the face of the IC. So bringing more of the cooling surface area into play.

Good, simple functional mod IMHO.

I got myself one of these a few years back, ZeroSport, cost me about £140, was a perfect fit though, direct bolt on no agro, made of aluminium

Very worth while mod

I'm just making the first batch from Galvo steel, but will be looking into making them from aluminium or stainless steel, depending on the price per sheet.

Plus I'm looking into a new project which will be VERY beneficial for scoobies parts on order - watch this space

Actually I might be wrong, it may have been stainless steel, can't remember or check as haven't got the car at the moment

I was going to use black hammerite smooth - will this adhere correctly without the mordant solution? . Any advise would be great thanks Spec'c'
