Hope it turns out how you want it to whichever way it goes.

Is it local interest or are we maybe losing the car altogether?

Are they offering to send you a cheque for 10k more then the asking price and requesting you to send the cash back?

Jeez - reading through this makes you wonder how on earth anyone will be able to privately sell their cars safely - how many people will be prepared to carry numerous thousands of pounds in CASH when going to pick up a new purchase - that alone runs a huge risk in itself!

Scary......

looks like I'll have to have a cash sale, only sell the car on the condition that the buyer comes with me so the money goes straight into my bank account, so the bank can check if the money is forged, and if it is, the police can be informed straight away, and there would also be CCTV evidence of the buyer, well, in theory anyway.

What a sad world we live in

The other option is to go to your bank and get them to do a direct money transfer.

Once the transfer is complete, the bank guarantee it. The transfer can't be cancelled or recalled.

My brother and a friend of mine both sold their cars this way with no problems.

Thanks Steve, will bear that in mind!

To be honest, I'm losing the battle with selling the car and with this experience am now having second thoughts. Keep being told how good the car looks and with so many people telling me to keep it, it's a real struggle now

I am going through the same myself at the mo,

Bloke who wants my car is probably genuine, but with all the stories you hear of these type of scams, it makes you think of everyone as potential con artists.

Just a sign of the times now.

I will also be doing the paying money into the bank or bank transfer, and the trouble is no doubt when I buy my next car that person will be thinking exactly the same about me.

If you accompany the 'buyer' to the bank and witness the bankers draft being made out by the bank, that must be pretty certain you get your money.

Either that, or demand cash, if someone wants it, they wont mind !
