Exclamation Ebay Scam - BEWARE

Please be aware I very nearly got caught by this myself today.

'Won' a 6 speed gearbox, with all bits to covert mine, had asked lots of questions and got all the right answers, payment was to be via paypal. Sent one last emails to confirm carrier details etc.

Then got the following email
"Please take urgent note - I have been offline for the last four weeks while the computer was in for repair please do not send any money to anyone as I have sold nothing please contact Ebay ASAP."

Obviously the ebay account has been hacked, but fortuneately the ebayer original e-mail address appeared on the 'you have won' email.

I have reported this to ebay, and will post up their reply when I have had it, but it would seem even paypal purchases are not without risk

This really is a shame.

I wont pay for anything large like that on ebay via paypal, would only do C.O.D.

Bad luck mate, how much did you "win" it for

Suspect that might be the source of how the scam started - you never know who is working on your PC when it goes in for repair, nor how "secure" your logins/passwords are when in that situation!

I used to be on ebay all the time and saw lots and lots of scams on there!

The point is Ebay can't do nothing about it ... It is down to the user to be adware and not stupid, Dont use the same passwords for other sites.. I used run a auction website and 90% of the people who signed up used the same passwords for it as they did for paypal and ebay ...
I did get really fed up with all the scammers out there and wanted to warn peeps about the scams ( as there are loads of them) by setting up a website, so i brought the domain www.ebay-scams.net but unfortunatly due to other ties I didn't have time to get it going, If anyone out there does however have the time they are welcome to take this domain off my hands FOC!

lucky escape more like.

Anyway the DCCDA would prob be a bad idea anyway, reading up on here, it's an awfull lot of effort, and invloves changing much more, or getting a seperate dccd controller. Too much agg for me, a std uk sti 6 speed will be plenty good enough for what I have in mind
